sleepwalker by day

Hello longlocks!

After reading the boards for more than a year, and participating for some time, it is time to stop procrastinating and introduce myself!

My name, 'nightowl', describes me quite accurately - I am quite honestly  a sleepwalker by day.  For 21 years I've been a nightshift nurse (from 10:30pm till 7:00 am) 5 days a week.  The upside: my hair seldom has sun, wind, or elemental damage, as I am so rarely out of doors in the light of day (ha ha).

I'm a single mom with a son who will be 16 in one week. (GASP  -  HOW THEY GROW!) We have a kitten (8 months old) named Pismo Beach ("mo" for short) named after a beach to the north of us.  He was a rescue kitty from a shelter in South Dakota, of all places! (We live on the central coast of California)

Ok, enough about me, personally...
On to the INTERESTING subject: HAIR!

How long is my hair:
At present, slightly below tailbone.  Haven't ever measured it's actual length - think I will for the next
"measuring day"
My hair has always been long, since age 4.  My mom grew weary of styling it by 2nd grade and after that I was on my own.  The shortest it has ever been was about BSL - following an unfortunate corn-rowing experience.

Color of my hair -
Medium ash brown with Auburn highlights, and 3 strange dark blond streaks (natural, my whole life) one at each temple, one in the center of the nape in the back- and about a dozen gray hairs starting to pop up.(the red only came along after my son was born)!
I've always hoped the "blondish brown" will gray at some point - it would be striking!

Texture/Type of hair -
Baby fine texture, but lots of it.  It has thinned somewhat as I've aged - but I'm the only one who notices.  When dried loose is quite wavy.
(Mom always says I'd have beautiful curls if only I'd loose some of the "weight" - yeah, right)

Favorite Products -
Matrix, sleek line (yes, I love those -cones)
Tiny amt shampoo, only on crown and bang
cider vinegar rinses 2x/month
light conditioner above the ears
heavy conditioner below ears
leave in conditioner
Jojoba oil to lowest 1/3 of hair daily, except wash days

ONLY Hair decorations:

LONG LOCKS HAIR STICKS!!!!!!!!
SUSAN - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!
I haven't worn my hair styled with anything else in nearly a year!
After a dozen pair, my family called me an addict.
After the second dozen I was "nuts"
I guess I'll be shipped off to the institution now, as I think the total numbers somewhere around 50 (sticks, not pairs - ha ha)
Since using sticks I've stopped using hairspray, end-fasteners and the 'straight' hair pins - now using only the old fashioned "bowlegged bobby pins" once in a while when a stray hair gets out of place.

My hair at present has never felt or looked better -
And this site is partially responsible !
There is SO MUCH accumulated information in each of us long haired folk, and sharing our knowledge is fantastic!

My goodness, I do tend to talk too much, especially after a 14 hour shift!  I just wanted to greet you all, formally - I'll see you around the boards!

Keep that beautiful hair growing!

Hi nightowl!

My partner works the ER shift at an animal hospital.  They call themselves the nightcrawlers and the day shift crew, the day walkers.  It seems so accurate when you get to know them all.

Your hair sounds lovely with all the natural highlights.

Yea!  Glad you finally added your intro!!

I don't know how you people work the night shift.  Although I don't sleep much, I don't function well during the late night hours.

Congrats on your hairstick collection - I'm envious.  I'm sure Susan considers you a favorite customer!  Grin

Welcome, Nightowl!

Your hair sounds so pretty.  And I'd love to see your hairstick collection!

My hair is just barely long enough to put up, but now I find myself wanting to check out Susan's hairsticks!

I'm trying not to buy any hair stuff 'til January, but I can LOOK.  By then, maybe my hair will stay up with hair sticks.

Welcome aboard! Grin

Thanks so much, everyone, for the official welcome!

If I ever figure out how to get pictures on here, the first thing I'd like to show you is my hairstick collection!

But, being technologically impaired, digitally speaking, it may be a while.... I've got hundreds of snap shots of hair styles with and without sticks, and I'd love a chance to share some of my favorites with you...

one of these days I'll figure it out!
thanks again, everyone!

Hello nightowl!

I do not get in here as much as I would like (A girl HAS to work for a living you know!) but want to add my welcome here!

Glad that you have been a life-long long haired lady, I wish mine were as long! (Someday)

Enjoy your hairsticks!

Long Haired prayers and hugs,
