COing

Apologies if this is explained in detail elsewhere. I don't frequent any other haircare boards, so all my info comes from the LL site.
When you talk about COing you mean you wash your hair only using conditioner ??? ???
I don't even use conditioner at all! Thankfully I don't wash my hair too often, it's not greasy. But if one uses only conditioner, does it get clean at all??? Or have I completely misunderstood???
Do you think I should switch to using conditioner only and no shampoo??? And will my hair be clean ever again if I do that?
Novice in hair care here!

CO'ing does mean not using shampoo.  Many conditioners actually have some of the same cleaning agents as shampoo, just in lesser concentration.  Some hair needs LOTS of moisture, so this method works well for them.  It can take a while for your scalp to adjust to not being washed with stronger agents, but if you already limit the frequency of washing your hair, it might work for you.

I don't use the CO method myself - other than when I am traveling and water conditions are poor - then I find just rinsing my hair and using a bit of conditioner to be adequate to freshen my hair without running the risk of over tangling it with an attempted shampoo when there is not good water pressure, or the water is very hard.

From what I have read - this method is particularly successful with curly hair that tends to be more dry.

hummm- I've been trying to move to CO'ing but last week I gave up and went back to my usual routine, then had to get my ends trimmed (ouch!) which included a wash.  I really felt my hair looked better than it had in a while, except for being a mite too dry - easily remedied with jojoba oil.  I went back to CO'ing by the end of the week, and don't really like how my hair turned out.  I think I'll go back to experimenting again Tongue

I don't wash very often either, especially as my hair gets longer (1-2 times a week).  I've been trying to use shampoo-conditioner  then do a CO the next 2 times, but it doesn't last as long as a shampoo wash.   I do use a conditioner after washing - helps detangle if nothing else!

Thank you ladies for your replies. At least now I know what it is all about. Doesn't appeal too much to me, though. I want the squeaky clean feeling! That's why I am not using even any conditioner.
But I must alter my ways, I know now. Or else...  Cheesy

Offering a view from the other side....  Grin
I haven't shampooed since January 21st. And my hair LOVES it! My scalp is slightly itchy sometimes, but it's always been itchy even with shampoo. I have a weird kind of dandruff that clings to the scalp, creating scalp gunk. I prevent itch by doing scalp rinses.

So.... I think my new routine is going to end up with a CO every 5-6 days, plus scalp rinses every other day in between. Clarifying with ACV really helps Cheesy

anais, i recently discovered putting aloe vera on the scalp gets rid of the itching. that and putting a few drops of ylang ylang in the conditioner (laveder doesn't work as well for that)  Grin
