Scarf bun
Feb 6th, 2005 at 6:09am

I just came up with this bun. It's very comfortable and protects hair well. I also think it looks cool and "artistic". I like to mist my hair before I put on the scarf. I think this might won't work in very long or very thick hair, as the scarf makes the bun look bigger.

To do this, you will need: a soft ponytail holder or a scrunchie (it doesn't have to hold hair very well), few hairpins, bandanna sized scarf

1. Put your hair in a rather loose ponytail. Twist it gently a little, just enough to turn it to a loose cinnabun.

2. Secure with hairpins. You don't need to secure very well- for me, two plastic hairpins are enough.

3. Take the scarf and fold it to a triangle.

4. Fold the corner opposing the long side of the triangle a little- maybe 10 cm or even less.

5. Put the scarf on the bun, long side against your crown (the folded corner is now downwards). It's ok, if it feels a bit too big- it'll adjust.

5. Take the ends, and tie them under the bun. Turn them then again upwards and tie again on the top of the bun. Tuck remaining ends under then bun and check general neatness.

Result should be a neat, covered bun.

I wore this hairstyle to work last week--I don't have any square scarves, so I used a long scarf and let the ends hang down.  The hanging ends kept my bun from looking too big (not that bun; I think that bun is beyond the help of a simple scarf  Grin) and I got lots of compliments!   Wink

Now I finally have a use for all of those scarves I keep buying 'cuz they're so pretty but never seem to wear!

I'm in heaven!  My Nana (grandmother) just gave me a bag of her 'old' silk scarves,  mind you-her 'old' things are in better shape than most of my new things!  They are beautiful, and they are good scarves, too...this lady buys nuthin' but the best!  Anyway, she gave them to me so I could use them for scraps or table covers.....not a chance!  First thing I did was try this hairstyle and it looks so cute  Grin, except I did not cover the bun, I left my hair exposed, next time I'll do it covered.  It's really ironic, really, let me explain:  Sundays are my only day off (sometimes, sometimes not at all!), so Sunday is MY day to do what I want-whether it be cleaning like a nutcase or nothing at all.  It's the only day I don't have to rush out of bed and into the shower, so I take advantage of this and usually just throw a bandana over my head to cover my greasy hair.  But, I just mentioned to my husband that I wanted to get a couple of nicer scarves that I can wear, because I go out in public like this, so I wanted to get some nice prints and colors (so I can match my moods, of course!) and lo & behold!  Here comes Nana 2 days later with an entire bagful, yay!  Funny how things work sometimes  Cheesy

That is so generous of your nana.  Do you have a scarf that you could call your favorite?

Not yet, they are all so pretty, and they are extra special because they came from her.  There are two that really catch my eye, one is a larger size sheer scarf with rose pinks, sage and cream in it, it's very pretty.  The other is more retro, it is smaller in size and has bold blocky shapes & polka dots of brown, white and black.  It is reminiscent of the 1960's style.  I'll have to play with them a little before I come up with a favorite.  Wink

Yes, there is a very interesting variety.  I'm wearing a sheer white with brown polka dots one today, my nana stopped in to see me today and she was so surprised to see me wearing them, it made me happy  Kiss
