The adventures of divewench
Mar 9th, 2005 at 11:06pm

Well, a hair journal seems like a fun idea, so I’ll give it a go.  I tend to get distracted by other things though (kids, theatre, travel, etc.), so I can’t promise to make regular entries!

Came across this site a week ago, the day before my appointment to get my hair cut.  It had gotten so frizzy and full of splits, that I was just fed up with it.   Angry  It just wouldn’t seem to grow past the small of my back, and I know that’s not its terminal length, because I had it hip-length in high school.  Add to that my growing-out bangs hanging in my face like limp dishrags all the time, and cutting seemed a good choice.

Poked around on this site, and decided to try CO washing, and braiding at night.  Wow, what a difference that made, even as soon as the next day!  Still had ratty ends, but the rest of my hair felt slippery and bouncy.  Fortunately, the stylist I had the appointment with proved to be very long-hair friendly, and even talked me out of cutting my bangs short again.  He was great about listening to what I wanted, making good suggestions, and then sticking to our agreement as to how much would be cut.  The length is now just about mid-back (longer than BSL) so I really didn’t lose too much, and the ends are much nicer now!

A week later, I am still CO washing every morning.  I know, that’s really often, but I had been shampooing every day, so I figure it’s progress.  Once my hair has adjusted to CO washing, I’ll try to reduce the frequency.  It starts to go greasy if I wait until the afternoon to CO.  I’m also going to keep shampooing with a clarifying shampoo once a week.  After a week of this, my hair is really, really happy with me, and vice versa.   Roll Eyes

A friend of mine is a distributor for Usana products (an M.L.M. sort of like Amway) and gave me some testers of their Sense’ hair products to try.  The ingredients list is great, with no –cones or other nasties, and they smell terrific, so I’m going to give them a go.  It’s pretty spendy though, so I may switch later on.

Ordered some henna through the Internet on Saturday, can’t wait for it to arrive!  I’ve been so busy I just realized I haven’t hennaed in over six months.  Fortunately, the henna I use is pretty close to my natural hair color, so there’s no sharp line of demarcation.  – Maybe if there were, I might remember to do it more often!

Lots of new hair goodies ::heehee!::

Getting ready for a weeklong dive trip next week.  Did some shopping and picked up GNC’s NourishHair supplement, rosewater (needed something -coneless to tame those flyaways!) and an organic leave in conditioner (Vitapro Fusion by Giovanni Organic Hair Care).  Since my hair will be exposed to saltwater several times each day, plus in the sun the rest of the time, I’m planning to douse it with the leave-in conditioner in the morning, braid it, then do a CO wash in the afternoon, after I’m done diving for the day.  Hopefully that will reduce any damage.  I’ve also got some Aveda oil that I’ll take along in case I need an extra moisture boost.

Got the Quattro Steelstix I ordered.  It’s going to be perfect for wet bunning.  Still waiting for the Longlocks stix I ordered.  ::drumming fingers on desk::  I do hope they get here before I leave for my trip, but if not, they’ll be a lovely surprise when I get back.

I really like the rosewater so far.  I've been searching for months for something to tame my flyaways, but everything I tried made my hair go all weird, and made my scalp itch something fierce!  I suspect it was the -cones.  I'm not really sold on the scent of the rosewater, but maybe I'll get used to it.  I don't usually wear perfume, but I'm worried there might be a clash when I do.  They also had lavender water and jasmine water, but they smelled even stronger.

My hair is starting to get a bit greasy, even with every day COing.  I’m determined to stick it out for at least another week, to give my scalp time to adjust to not being shampooed every day.  I may have to try out some scarf styles in the meantime.

And joy of joys!  My Avigal henna arrived yesterday!  Now I just have to wait until tomorrow to wallow in the mess.  It'll be worth it for the conditioning and the awesome color.  I use a half and half mixture of red and copper, with a few tablespoons of olive oil mixed in to make it more pliable.

How odd.  Just noticed my previous post says my hair will be exposed to "salthingyer." But when I edit it, the edit box shows the correct "saltwater."  Wonder what the board is trying to tell me?  I do wish it would stop speaking in tongues - LOL!

Anyhoo, I did the henna treatment last night.  My back is killing me from all the rinsing I had to do.  I somehow ended up with half again as much as I needed, but didn't want it to go to waste, so I piled it all on.  Took simply FOREVER to rinse it all out.  But I am so happy with the color and how soft it is.  I just love henna!

Oh, and before I forget: CURSE YOU LONGLOCKS!  Wink  I haven't even received my first order of hairstix yet, and I had to place a second.  Those new topaz Swingstixs were just too yummy to resist!  Is there a 12-step Longlocks program?  Maybe I should start one for us addicts.

Going to shampoo tonight, even though with all the rinsing last night it doesn't really feel like it needs it.  If I didn't shampoo, I'd end up all greasy by Tuesday.

And I have gotten used to the scent of the rosewater I'm using.  It does fade pretty quickly, and is SO much better at taming my flyaways than any commercial product I've tried before.  Thanks to all on this board for posting their tips - you've really helped my hair!

hee, hee.  I had to really think about what the "censor" program was consoring.  As you've noticed, certain words (or strings of letters) will be replaced with the word "thingy".  A space in the word would allow it to remain unedited:  salt water.

Hee hee!  Now that is funny, bikerbraid!  I’ve never even noticed the naughty word in there before, but now I won’t be able to stop seeing it!

Today I am a happy girl!  Got my first Longlocks order yesterday.  The photos on the website, pretty as they are, really don’t do them justice.  They are so gorgeous!  I got the Spring Sophisticate SpiralStix, Midnight Dew SwingStix and Rossetti’s Jade GeishaStix.  I’m wearing the Spring Sophisticates now, and even got a compliment from my partner at work, who is a “manly man” sort of guy, and never notices those kind of things.  And even the wrapping is lovely - like a wonderful present from me to me!  Cheesy

I really like that the Longlocks are not as long as my other hairsticks.  I tend to wear my buns rather low on my head, right at the nape, and these don’t stab me in the neck whenever I turn my head.  I gave my hair a rest on Sunday and didn’t wash at all, so I shampooed yesterday, and my hair was slipping out a bit, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem today, so it was probably a factor of being slippery clean.

And I do hope there will be more GeishaStix soon.  The Rossetti’s Jade is incredible!  I simply must have more!  But I hope they don't get posted before I get back from Fiji, because I don’t want to miss them!

Thanks for the welcome greek_lady!  I'm such an addict that I placed another order before I left on vacation, and it was waiting for me when I got back.  Lovely topaz splendor swing stix - totally faboo and my new favorites - until my next pair!

The conditioning regimen seems to have done the trick in protecting my hair from all the salt_water (tee hee!) exposure.  Just a few splits, which I trimmed off when I got back.

And, as I posted on the products board, I adore my new Sense products.  Can't say enough good about them really: organic, cruelty-free, smell good, and work great!  Not cheap, but then, to quote a commercial: "I'm worth it!"

I do think I'll give my hair another month on the CO routine before I try to space out the washings.  I went without washing for three days last week due to being sicker than a dog (love those long plane flights for picking up bugs!) and ended up a serious greaseball.

Hey Divewench,
the next time you go diving in salt water, you might try loading your hair up with olive oil.  Yes, it will be slick and you'll look like an otter, but the oil will protect from the corosive salt.

A thought!

Well.  So, okay, this is a very OCCASIONAL journal.  Something about 25 open cases - two of them criminal, directing a musical which opens in three weeks, planning
a national training - at which I am also teaching three sessions, and having a five year old who takes ballet and a two year old who asks me every FIVE SECONDS "What are you doing Mommy?" (My stock answer has become: "Going crazy, wanna come?"  He usually says "Yeah!"  What a sweetie!)

So anyway, about the hair.  My hair was humming along quite happily on CO with once a week clarifying for a few months, when it suddenly decided it had had enough conditioning.  At least, I think that's what it was saying, I'm still not fluent in Hairese.  It suddenly got lank and greasy looking, even the day of CO.  It was like I couldn't wash out the conditioner, no matter how much I tried.  And believe me, I tried.  The final straw was one day when I CO'ed, rinsed for literally ten minutes, then went to work with wet hair.  When it dried, it was really greasy looking and I could feel the residue on it.  So I went home at lunch and rinsed for another five minutes.  Back to work with wet hair.  It dried again, and was STILL greasy looking.  I had to go out that evening, so I broke down and shampooed after work.

Thanks to some great advice from all of you on the boards, I think I've got this issue licked, at least for now.  I switched to Anais Satin's C-COW-C method, although I decided to skip the initial conditioning, since my problem seemed to be over-conditioning.  This method is working really well so far.  At least, until the next time my hair decides it wants a change.  ::sigh::  such is the life of a rapunzel.  I think we're the real hair minions - to our own hair!   Grin

Also, it was way past time to re-do my henna, so I did that on Sunday.  When I've hennaed in the past, I always ended up with soft, shiny hair.  This time, it came
out really dry, with extra crispy ends.  Yikes!   Shocked Fortunately, I have some jojoba oil with EO, so I put some of that in before braiding at night.  It seems to have done the job, except for the ends, which are still a bit crunchy.  I'll keep up the oiling for a while.  I've also found that since my hair "transition" I need to start using the Rosewater again, which I hadn't used for quite a while.

I was having such good results with COW-C, that I decided to see how long I could go between washings.  Washed on Tuesday, Wednesday was great, Thursday morning was fine, but Thursday afternoon was the limit.  I'll give plain rinsing between COWs a try next time.

And thanks for the tip novusfemina - usually olive oil is far too heavy for my very fine hair, but it might just work for diving.  I'll have to give it a try, if I ever have time to dive again!

New hair toys since last post: Swirling Sea FoilStix (gorgeous!) and Capri Sun single hair pin (also gorgeous!)

Well Sakina, it seems only fair, since you got the Celtic Mist!  Grin

Today, with the help of the boards, I think I averted a hair disaster.  My daughter had come up with the idea that she wanted to cut her waist-length hair.  She'd been nagging me for weeks, and I finally relented and gave her a trim a couple of weeks ago, but she was still nagging me, so I posted my dilemma on the boards.  Got loads of good advice - thanks!

So I talked to my daughter today.  She couldn't really tell me *why* she wanted her hair cut.  So I asked her how short she wanted it.  She showed me about an inch off the ends.  I told her that's how much I cut two weeks ago when I trimmed.  Then she wanted to make sure I had trimmed *all* the hairs.  She cracks me up.

She also asked me to get some beads to put in her hair, so I stopped by Sally's at lunch today.  Hopefully putting the beads in will make her happy (she's such a girly-girl), and it gave me a great excuse to get some new hair toys for myself, too!

I do always let her choose her hairstyle for the day, and she's got more hair toys than I do!  Usually she just wants a ponytail, but sometimes a braid.  Today she insisted on wearing it down, even though it gets in her eyes.  I think she's a true longhair at heart, just a bit confused by the idea that she's *supposed* to cut her hair.  I think/hope we've nipped that in the bud!

So, for myself I got a boar's bristle brush.  Juri says in her journal that using one helped her go an extra day without washing, and I'd really like to only wash every third day.  I'll give it a try.

I also got a new pair of hair scissors, since the pair I bought a couple months ago have gone missing.   Sad  Spent some time doing S&D today - geez, my hair sometimes splits waaaay up the shaft.  ::sigh:: Hopefully I'll be able to get them all snipped soon, so then I'll only have to do maintenance trimming.

Off to rehearsal, we open in two and a half weeks - EEEK!   Shocked

It's good to hear all your daughter needed was some new baubles!  And that you got some goodies for yourself.   Wink  Does your daughter like Hello Kitty?  She might like some of the hair accessories here (the stock changes seasonally):

http://store.yahoo.com/sanriostore/categories-cosmetics---body-care.html

And I believe they also sell other styles at Target, if there is one in your area.

Those are cute!  Thanks for the link khrome!  There is a Target near me, I'll have to check it out when things calm down a bit here.  But I'll have to sneak them into the house, hubby is already overwhelmed by all the hair toys it takes to keep two longhairs happy.   Grin

Wearing a pair of Mei Fas today.  Pretty sure I'm going to have to give them away.  I don't know if its because my hair is longer now, or just because I've gotten used to the far more substantial Longlocks stix, but I've had to redo my hair three times already, and it's not even noon yet.  Plus, if I get them tight enough to hold for more than a few minutes, I can hear them starting to crack.  They are pretty though, so maybe I'll pass them along to a friend whose hair is shorter than mine.

Yay me!  I reached a hair goal yesterday!  I managed to go two days without having to wash!  COW-C'ed on Saturday, and was just getting a bit limp by Monday.  I had a session with my personal trainer (why do I pay someone to torture me, anyway?) and I was all sweaty, so I rinsed my hair with just water afterward.  My hair was still a bit limp looking, but was fine up in a bun.  Happy, happy me!    Cheesy

Also tried daughter's hair up in hair sticks on Saturday, per Beesan16's wonderful advice.  Other than having to fight her over who got to wear the LL Swirling Sea Foilstix (I won), she really liked having grown up hair like Mommy's.  Once my show opens on the 26th I'll have more free time again, and we'll try the other half of Beesan16's advice, and make some hair sticks of our own.  My daughter loves projects, and she can make them as glitzy as she wants.  I swear, she must have been a magpie in a previous life!

COW-C'ed again this morning, so I'm enjoying leaving it down today.  I'll probably put it up for rehearsal, so I don't have to fuss with it, but it's fun to wear down sometimes too.  Especially when its slippery-clean and doesn't want to stay up.

I've been reading a lot about Chagrin Valley's shampoo bars.  They sound very intriguing, but I'm trying to resist.  I only just switched to COW-C, and I'm really liking the results so far.  We'll see how long I can resist.

Bleh.  I hate adjusting.   Tongue  While I am happy that I am finally managing to stretch out to two days between washings, I’m not happy with the limp, almost greasy look I have on the second day after washing.  Thank goodness for buns, and I can just pretend I’m going for “the wet look” ha, ha.  I know that my scalp will eventually adjust, but it’s no fun in the meantime.  I’ll just have to stick it out and be patient.  After all, I never thought I could skip even one day without washing, and my hair adjusted extremely well to that.  Eventually.  ::sigh::  I just wish it would hurry up  ::drumming fingers on table::

I do think the bbb is helping with oil distribution.  Or, at least, it’s distracting and soothing to brush right before braiding for the night.  With all the stress in my life right now, I can use all the soothing I can get.   Undecided

Still having a bad hair month.  I am still adjusting to the new wash routine - hate that third day hair!  Not only that, but I've done three S&Ds in the past week, and all three lasted about an hour.  Every single hair section I pick up seems to consist only of splits.    Cry  I swear I must've cut every single hair on my head by now, but then I keep finding more.  Some hairs are even split as far as three inches up the shaft - I'm afraid to look higher for fear of what I might find!  Some hairs are feathered from the ends on up for an inch or more - I can't even count how many times they've split.  Ack!  This is so not fair - I've been much kinder to my hair since I discovered this place, but I guess I'm just stuck with fragile hair.  That explains those fairytale ends I'm always getting, I guess.

I just trim and trim, and try to remind myself that I am helping my hair be more healthy, but geez - I'm gonna end up losing an inch or more by the time I'm done.   Undecided

I agree, that greasy look at the end of a wash day is icky and somewhat embarrassing (at least for me). But I'm glad you're sticking it out, Divewench!

August is almost over, so hopefully September will be a better hair month.

Thanks for the good wishes juri and gabi!  It's always nice to have support!

I feel like my hair is finally, finally starting to adjust to its 3-day routine.  I did have to wash Saturday, which was supposed to have been a third day, but I couldn't see showing up to a performance with greasy hair - I do have to make the pre-show speech, after all.

However, today is third day, and not too bad at all.  I had another session with my trainer, so I did need to rinse in the shower, since I was all sweaty.   Tongue

Aside from that, my scalp is just a bit itchy, but the hair itself is hardly greasy at all.  I may survive this yet!  I am looking for a pretty scarf style just in case I need it for Thursday night's performance though!

And, after a grand total of over six hours of S&D, I feel as though I am finally getting a handle on the split situation.  I've really got to look for the buggers now.   Smiley

Oof.  Just bought three new LL stix.   Smiley  Only two are for me though (Multicolor Midnight IndividualiStix, and Hidden Treasure GemStix) and one pair is a gift (Twisted Zircon Original LongLocks HairSticks).  And somebody stop me from ordering any more green ones.  I just can't help myself!   Grin

Hair got washed today, so we're all happy now.  I did try a bit of shea butter on the ends last night before braiding.  Just as I suspected, shea is much too heavy for my type of hair - very weighed down and greasy this morning.  Fortunately, I had planned my experiment for the night before a wash, so it all came out, well, in the wash.  Wink

The ends do feel a bit different today though, not sure whether I like it or not yet.  They feel beefed-up, yet dry.   ???  I'll have to do some more experimenting to see what gives.

Aaaargh!  Thanks to 13bodies  Kiss I’ve found yet another addiction to empty my wallet.  BPAL!  I’ve ordered 12 imps to try:

Zephyr
Belle Epoque
Mata Hari
Tempest
Absinthe
Fae
Arcana
Eclipse
Aeval
O
Succubus
Catherine

I wanted to get imps of High Priestess and Judgment, but they only have big bottles of the tarot scents, and I’m not brave enough to go for it.  Not yet anyway.  Aaaaaaah!  Someone save me from myself!  But it takes two months before they’ll be shipped.  Guess I’ll just have to console myself with my new Longlocks stix.  This delayed gratification stuff sux!    Roll Eyes

Hair:
Today is third day.  I’m wearing Sakina’s cute zigzag part with two buns hairstyle.  Very fun, and very different from what I usually wear!  Still need to work on the execution I think, but it has definite possibilities.  Hair is still wet from this morning’s scratch ‘n rinse in the shower, but we’ll see how it looks after drying.  Already got one compliment from my work partner.  First he said I had a "Heidi thing going,"  then switched that to Lady-In-Waiting.  I guess its a hard style to pin down.   Smiley

Note to self:  never, NEVER post on the boards about how you’ve finally managed to get the split situation under control because your hair will promptly develop a whole new crop.  Angry  I am beginning to think that 13bodies is correct that our hair is a sentient alien lifeform, and we are merely the hosts.  But, if that’s true, why would it engage in behavior ensuring it’s own maiming by S&D?  Hmmm.  Perhaps it is a masochistic sentient alien lifeform.  Roll Eyes

And speaking of 13bodies, my credit card company will forever bless you.  Wink  It’s all I can do to resist going to bpal and buying big bottles of Justice and High Priestess.  So unfair that imps are not available for the tarot scents!  Those two sound soooooo yummy.  Perhaps I should join the bpal forum and see if there is someone there who will sell me an imp of theirs to try.  Or I may just have to give in and take the gamble.  I can always trade them away later if I don’t like them.  [Note that the rationalization has already begun.]

On the show front, things are going well with Kiss Me, Kate.  We opened on Friday, and have been having a smashing run so far – sold out for the entire run before we even opened.  Grin  We added a special benefit on Tuesday for the big-money mucky mucks, and raised $8,500 toward the theatre’s renovations.  Can’t wait to get that dumbwaiter to schlep all those costumes up to the third floor costume rooms!

Hair:  other than the aforementioned splits, it seems to be doing well.  Today was wash day, so it gets to be down and free.  Kind of fun!  Sakina’s zigzag part with mini-buns went well yesterday, although I did have two different people make references to Princess Leia.  Must be because I had the buns low down on my head.  I’ll have to try it with higher buns next time, although high buns usually give me a scalp-ache.

Cats:  I haven’t talked about the fuzz-butts here yet.  I’ve got two: Oscar Underfoot and Fiona Hushpaws.  Fiona I got from the Humane Society.  I had finally managed to convince my (now very ex-) husband to let me have a cat, so we made a trip to see who was available.  I was looking at the kittens, who were all at eye-level of course, when a paw reached out from the very bottom cage and grabbed my leg.  I looked down, and saw the sweet little terrified face of a Russian Blue!  I’m a huge sucker for Russian Blues, so home she came with us.   Kiss  The vet guessed she was about one year old, and was pregnant.  Oh geez.  Spike (not his real name) was a very controlling - let’s say jerk (to avoid straining the profanity filter) - and told me it was a kitty abortion or back she went to the pound.  I called the Humane Society, who informed me that if I let her have the kittens, then the kittens belonged to them, since I had only paid for the adoption of one cat.   EXCUSE ME??!!  Shocked  The vet also recommended the abortion, since Fiona was very young and frail at the time, and she thought it would be too much of a strain on her.  So we did it.  May Bast forgive me.  Fourteen years later and I still feel the guilt.   Cry  I know it was the only decision I could have made at the time, but, well, enough of that.  Lips Sealed

As Russian Blues are wont to be, Fiona is a one-person cat, although she has learned to tolerate my husband (the second one that is, she didn't much care for Spike.)  She was my early warning system when my kids were babies, and would come get me if they were whimpering in their crib.  Such a doll.  The doctor detected a heart murmur last week at her checkup.  Not unusual in a fifteen-year old cat, but worrisome nonetheless.

Oscar.  He showed up about two weeks after I adopted Fiona.  November 1st I was paying the paperboy, and in walks a big black cat.  The paperboy said, “Is that your cat?”  “I guess it is now.”  We think he was about six months old at the time, and looked like he'd been on the streets the whole time.  If Oscar was a human he’d be a linebacker.  He’s always been between 13 and 15 pounds, and all of it muscle.  Such a love, and a big fan of parties, but I have to remember to put the salsa up on the dining room table.  If I put it on the coffee table Oscar drinks it.  Smiley  He also has a prehensile tail, and has been known to use it to hook wineglasses off the table if he doesn’t feel enough attention is being paid to him.  For a free cat, I’m estimating I’ve paid about $1,600 for him so far.  There was the raccoon fight, which led to the abscessed face, which led to his Frankenkitty impression for three weeks while he had the stent in.  Then the allergic reaction to an immunization.  Then the broken canine.  The worst was the Friday before Fourth of July weekend this year, when  I ran over him in the driveway.   Shocked  He sleeps in the driveway all day, then gets up and moves when I pull in.  Well, he got up and moved, and I pulled in, only to be horrified by a ::thump:: from the back wheel.  I don’t know if he didn’t get all the way off the driveway, or if he came back too early – he usually greets me when I open the door.  That was five hours at the emergency vet, with thankfully no broken bones, only bruises, contusions and shock, and yes, another broken canine.  And he does move off the driveway right smartly these days.   Smiley  At his checkup last week they diagnosed hyperthyroidism, which means pills twice a day for forever.  And they ain’t cheap.  Maybe I should have gotten that pet insurance after all?

Thanks gabi and Cynde!   Smiley  Gabi, I have often thought I might like a Maine Coon.  Maybe next time...

On the kitty front, Oscar really, really, really doesn't like being given a pill twice a day.  Oh dear - this could get awkward since he's got to take them forever now.  I hope he gets used to it, because otherwise I'm going to end up with shredded hands.  And it doesn't help that the darn pills are teeny-tiny to begin with and I'm supposed to give him a half-pill in the morning and a half at night.  I stuffed one half down him four times last night, and it came back three of them.  Only a bit of blood though (mine).  This morning he was up on the roof crying piteously.  My daughter fell for it and wanted me to get him down.  Nope, sorry, I am not climbing up on the roof to get down a cat which got up there on its own in the first place.  Sure enough, he was down when we got home today.   Wink

Fiona has been her usual lovey self.  I still haven't decided on all the tests the vet wants to do.  I'll have do to some heart murmur research this weekend.

Hair: I think it doesn't really like between-washing rinsings.  I rinsed on Saturday, which was a second-day, and it ended up all limp and almost, but not quite, greasy.  The next day was fine though.  So I'm experimenting with eliminating my third day rinse.  Wednesday was a third-day, and I didn't rinse, just put it up out of the way during my shower.  Not bad at all actually.  Just a bit of itch in a few spots, and the hair was fine, though I did have it up all day.

Also got not one, but TWO LL hairstix orders, so I am in total heaven!  Wearing my gorgeous Wild Grape SterlingStix right now.  I've wanted purple ones for a while, but I always get beat to the punch.  Not these though, they're mine, all mine - bwah-hah-hah-hah!

bpal: Oh my.  I bought a 5ml bottle of Spooky from ebay and it arrived yesterday.  I am sooo sorry this is a limited edition that isn't available anymore!  It's deliciously yummy on me - sort of a vanilla/mint with just a hint of coconut.  My daughter said, "Man, it smells like Christmas cookies in here!"  Grin  The woman who sold it to me also threw in an imp of Bluebeard, which was really nice, and totally unexpected.  I need to go give her some really awesome feedback!

So, I tried, but I couldn't resist the lure of those Tarot Scents.  I ordered 10mls of The High Priestess and Justice, and a 5ml of The Unicorn because it has LINDEN in it.  I am a total linden junkie.  I've been known to stand around on street corners when the lindens are in bloom just sniffing and sniffing.  I get some pretty strange looks.   Roll Eyes  And, as long as I was putting an order in anyway, I thought I might as well get another imp 6-pack.  There's also got a very nice gal on the bpal forum who is going to send me six random imps to tide me over until my first order arrives in early November.  And then I'm not going to order anything else until next month.  No really, I mean it.   Wink

So, it's official.  I've given up on trying to get my hair to adjust to washing every three days.  After two months, it's obvious it just really wants to be washed every other day.  So fine.  Beaten by dead protein.  Tongue  I'll give Monday, Wednesday, Friday washings a try and see how it goes.  No hairstix today because I washed this morning and also because I'm punishing my hair.  "Bad hair!  No toys for you today!"  Wink

“Kiss Me, Kate” closed on Saturday and I have the usual after show mixed feelings. I am happy that I will actually get to spend time with my family, but I am really going to miss my cast. They’re the best.  ::sniffsniff::

bpal:  Oooooooh - I am SUCH a liar!  I managed to resist the Lunacy blend on Sunday (musk and blood, really not me) but I did buy three other bottles on ebay on Friday.  Another bottle of Spooky, which I have come to adore (yummy vanilla coconut mintiness) and a bottle each of Honey Moon and Milk Moon, which I can’t wait to try – they sound sooo delicious.  (Darn those Limited Editions anyway!)  I also received not only the six imps I bought from a forumite, but two frimps from her as well.  One would think that would be enough for now.  One would think wrong.  I’ve already got another massive order ready to go, but I’ve promised myself not to send it in until the end of the month.  Unless something else comes up on ebay that I can’t resist.   Roll Eyes

Oscar is doing so much better since he’s been on the thyroid medication!  His fur has gotten its shine and softness back and he obviously feels better – he spent several hours last night camped out on my chest, demanding attention and purring his heart out.  His purr can be heard across the room.  And he’s starting to gain back the weight he lost.  I don’t care how much these pills cost, they’re totally worth it!  We’ve worked out a but of a truce on the pill-taking routine, as well.  I had always given my cats pills by holding them under the jaw with my left hand, and using those fingers to open their mouth while putting the pill at the back of their throat with my right hand.  Never had any problems before, but Oscar had strong objections to this method, and I have the scars to prove it!  A friend suggested holding him by the scruff of his neck, but higher up, at the back of the head.  I tried it, and it works like a charm.  Oscar holds completely still and swallows the pill with no trouble.  I do still give him a treat afterwards though, just ‘cause.  He's such a sweetie, but rather dim.  As someone once put it: “Oscar has two brain cells: one sits in the wheelchair and the other refuses to push.”

Fiona has switched over to Winter Sleeping Mode.  Summer Sleeping Mode is to lounge on my chest and bump her head into my book until I give up on reading and turn out the light, then move to her spot underneath the bed.  Winter Mode is to curl up into the tiniest ball imaginable and cram herself up against me.  Seriously, she’s like one of those pill bugs that you can roll around.  She waits until I’m deeply asleep, then slinks up onto my chest and nips me on the nose to wake me up, pawing at the covers to be let in.  She usually will only stay under the covers for a few minutes, then wants to be let out again, at which point we repeat the whole process throughout the night.

Soon we will begin the “Where’s Fiona?” game.  When it starts to get colder, she will find a super-secret lair to hide out in to avoid being put outside for the day.  She hides as soon as I start to get ready to leave for work in the morning.  She’s pretty small, and very creative, and she changes lairs often.  She’s also surprisingly strong, and will wedge herself into places with her feet and back, so that I have to literally pry her out.

I still haven’t made a decision on her heart tests.  She seems fine, but I know how cats can hide symptoms until far too late.  Sigh.

So I took my car in to the shop on the 9th for a tune-up.  Mentioned to the mechanic that it had been hesitating pulling away from a stop and could they check it out while they were at it.  I just got the car back this morning, after signing a credit card slip for an obscene amount of money.  Why is it that my cats and my car always seem to need work at the same time?

Oy, almost a month since I posted last.  I went on vacation to visit family for two weeks, then returned home, only to spend the past two weeks in training for work.  I'm exhausted, but I feel ever so much more intelligent now!

The hair seems to be happy with our new routine of MWF COW-Cs.  I usually spend Sunday in my sweats doing laundry and never leave the house, so I don't mind having icky third-day hair then.

bpal: I recently received a crazy number of scents to try, so I am trying to test as many as possible before my mega-Samhain/Yule order arrives in a few weeks.  Right now I'm wearing Sea of Glass on my left wrist and Magdalene on my right.  A scent of purity juxtaposed with a scent of Sin and Redemption.  The combination is quite interesting.

Also just ordered two of Susan's new FoilStix - Bohemian Flame and Venetian Waters - yippee!

Thanks juri!  I've missed this site quite a bit actually.

Also just found out I missed out on the Venetian Waters stix.  Phooey.  At least I got the Bohemian Flame, which are gorgeous, and a color I don't have in my collection yet, so it's all good.

And now I'm drowning my sorrows in my latest bottle of bpal: Beatrice.  Florals with a poisonous edge - love it!
