Hmmm...

So I know a lot of you take supplements for hair growth or atleast to prevent so much shedding. I was just wondering what do you take and how much of each? I went to GNC to look at some things and ummm...I'm pretty dumb and get overwhelmed easily, so I just left. Can anyone help meeee?

Right now I'm taking 1800 mcg of biotin along with a multi.  Some people take hair pills, such as the GNC Ultra Nourishair.  If you do get that, cut those pills in half first!  Those things are a major choking hazzard. Angry  I think MSM works for some people to prevent shedding, although I've heard that a few others had the exact opposite happen.  HTH.

I take all the usual suspects including biotin and I'm cutting way back on that one (used to take 5000mg).

I like kelp but you have to not overdo because it could mess with thyroid function in excess, or lack thereof, just check it out before jumping in.

I do take MSM but not for hair.

I agree on the choking hazard  Sad ...g

I take multivitamin + Piimax complex that contains silica, calcium, acerola cherry and biotin. Might contain something else too, I just don't remember right now.

Have to admit I'm getting more and more concerned about vitamins and interactions.  I do believe supplements are a very good thing but there is so much to consider.

There is also the fact that eating right would probably be cheaper  Shocked, g

Is there any set amount I would need to take of Biotion or MSM to achieve the full potential of them? I already eat well, so this would just be a little bonus.

Actually, I'm not sure about how much one should take.  Check out http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tips214.htm. ; If you scroll half-way down the page, there should be a list of various supplements and how much is needed to maximize hair growth.  Personally I wouldn't take the ammount of supplements they reccommend because it seems like rather a lot and I don't know what sort of effect it would have on my system.  There's also a link to an article on MSM on the main page, but I'm not sure if it states how much MSM to take.

With MSM the main thing is to start on a low dose and gradually increase, otherwise you may get headaches or digestive problems.  It is, for most people, no problem, you simply back off when you start to get well, frankly, diarrhea.

With the B's it's a bit more complicated because everything works together and some block absorption of others.  You have to consider what you are getting in your diet, what your individual body may require and absorb.  Obviously it's not easy to determine all this, so usually starting with a balanced supplement and then reading all you can is a good idea.

On the benign vitamins or minerals you can experiment and see what happens.  Again, not so easy because it takes about three to six months to see the results, IF nothing else has changed.

There just is no easy answer... I'll look around and see if I find anything to link to that I think would be helpful - but Karen Shelton of the Hairboutique is a good source of information...g
