Eye Makeup
Aug 6th, 2005 at 4:46pm

I thought you ladies might have an answer to my dilemma so here goes.

I like to wear brown shirts and things, but black is my favorite eyemakeup, would it look okay to wear a brown shirt and do this in black with my eyemakeup?
...

.:.edit.:.
I've tried it with dark browns and it just isn't dark enough.

I really don't see anything wrong with wearing black eye makeup with brown shirts. That'd be like saying you'd have to match your eye make up to your hair or match your eyeshadow to your shirt...Which according to most cosmetologists and people of that sort is a no no. It seems very Tammy Faye.

I don't know much about mae up, I've only just started playing with it myself(been trying to find a good foundation), but if the browns aren't dark enough it can't hurt to try this. If worse comes to worse you can always keep trying different things until you find something you like. If it looks like that picture then it seems like it would work to me.

I love smoky black eyes.  I say go for it.  Long eyelashes look perfect with black eyemakeup, too.

Oh think that's perfectly fine.

No one would think twice about it if you had black hair and eyes naturally.

Brown makeup can be tricky - too much red in it and you look sore eyed ...g

If you're concerned with the black eye makeup looking too dramatic for day, put a neutral over all of  your lid, a darker shade in the crease (grey perhaps) and line the inner rims of your eyes with black.  MAC's Smolder is my all time fave.  To line the outside of the eye and to make the liner stay at the lashline:  first apply liner as close to the lashes as you can and smudge.  Then take eyeshadow of the same color (black-dramatic) or a softer color (grey-not so dramatic) and with a very fine shadow brush apply the shadow directly over the smudged liner.  This will soften the look of the line and make it stay longer.

Also, you could do the darker shadows and put a dab of lighter shadow in the center of your eyelid.  It will make it pop and not look overly dark.

And always, highlighting your brow bone will lighten the overall look of the dark eyes.

My ultimate reference:  any of Kevyn Aucoin's books.  Rest In Peace, Kevyn!  He's the most awesome makeup artist ever (in my book)  You may be able to check 'em at the library.

Yes - it should be perfectly fine!  I just learned this last night coincidentally.  I was watching re-runs of America's Next Top Model, and Tyra Banks' makeup artist said you should NEVER match your eyeshadow with your gown color.  I'd assume that would apply to shirt colors too.  Smiley

Personally, I don't see a problem with wearing brown with brown either, though, I dunno.  I'm not a makeup pro so what do I know!  Smiley

Thanks guys! I was just not wanting to look funny, because of the rule of matching and all. But I will check out some of Kevyn Aucoin's books, Sakina. Maybe I can find a good deal on half.com, or eBay! I'll let you all know what happens.

I also like the site http://1stmakeup101.com/

They have some awesome tips!

your eye-makeup has to do with your eye colour and shape.

This is a good topic for me, i am so defunct when it comes to applying eye makeup.  I wish i knew how to get all those great looks that i see, for example that sexy smoky look like panpeus had mentioned, i just don't seem to get it!  I always end up doing the same ol-same ol, the trusty shimmery-brown over the entire eyelid, nice but boring!

The links are great.  I only wear make-up like 2 -3 times a year - maybe  Roll Eyes Few years ago I would go all out every day OMG  Undecided  It took me quiet a while to look at myself - and liking it - without make-up. I felt naked not wearing  AT LEAST some mascara and kajal (eyeliner).
Now it's all natural  Grin

Most indubitably! Smokey eyes are extremely sensuous.

Picture a man and women in a restaurant. The camera pans out for a moment to see them toast with elegant crystal wine glasses. The fruit of the luscious grape captured within the candle-light at the table. The camera pans in, the male says something, it's not important what he says, but the camera turns to catch the lady's face in frame as her smokey eyes say more than words as she peers over the wine glass.
