Anyone read this series by Terry Goodkind? 

I picked one of the later ones up as a book on tape as a way to keep my mind off my work outs, and have turned into a book on tape junkie.  There is no better way to have my 'escapist' tendencies while still getting things done like cleaning the house, and driving to and from work.   

Anyway, in the series, part of the new world, 'the Midlands', a womans rank in society is depicted by the length of her hair.  No one can hair longer than the Mother Confessor, the ruler of the land.  I think the author intends for her hair to be just below BSL, but I always imagine it at classic length.  The author goes into a ton of detail on all the characters hair, and I can picture them all as if they were real people.

That sounds like an interesting read. I should look into it.

Uh oh...

I write female characters often. The lead in my finished novel and one in progress are female. Not being a female, I often wondered how my characters played in the minds of a woman.

The third in progress is seen through the eyes of a male. Maybe this will be easier.

This was a nagging question I have had for the two or so years writing the first novel. I'm glad you wrote what you did.

And yes, i noticed you wrote -some- men. Feedback is needed when writing.

Getting back to the original subject of this group of messeges, I'll relate a dream I had.

The dream was a network of women that lived on a bridge. The ones higher up had longer hair than the ones that lived lower. The lower ones would challenge the ones farther up. If successful, the higher one would have to cut her hair and the lower one took her place. If unsuccessul, the lower one would have to move to the bottom and cut any length of hair she had. The longer one lived at the top and warded off her challengers, the longer her hair grew.

The thing that woke me from this dream was a bottom dweller challenged a waist length beauty at the top,... and won.

Yes, this was an odd dream, but at least I wasn't tortured or killed.  In fact, I was only a bystander in this one. The dream was through my eyes.

Now that you mention it, your dream does seem like a power struggle between a parent and child: one wants the other to get a haircut while the other one doesn't, and vice versa. Then the looser of the struggle has to do something she doesn't want to do. That might not be it at all, but it's one possibility.
