Hello again Ladies and ah..Gent.
So finally I have decided to stop whinning about old black hair color and have my color corrected and restored. I called around a lot of places and asked about Rusk Elimin8...No one had heard of it around here. Not a surprise, this is a smallll area. Supposedly they are going to use something called 'Color Erase', which I think she said was by Matrix. Has anyone heard of it? I was quite stern about not wanting my hair fried or totally damaged. She told me she would use the color remover in small sections so that it wouldn't stay on as long..Which would in the end minimize the damage. I'm feeling quite nervous and may just wimp out all together. I wonder if I should let my hair get dirty first...So there are more natural oils. Hmmm. Any suggestions?

AtlantisAlure, glad to see you again!
I haven't heard of the Matrix product so I can't help you there.
I had color stripped twice earlier this year. My hair felt like straw for about 2 months (as best I can remember) although it didn't look like it felt. I used hot oil treatments and deep conditioning treatments weekly for awhile and it got better. My hair calmed down and got soft. I am now (and have been) having broken hairs and splits that were not a problem prior to the stripping. However, I trim 'em when I find 'em and get occasional trims at a salon. I know eventually that damaged hair will be gone. I'm at about 20 inches long right now and will probably stop at BSL and maintain that length until that damaged hair is cut off. Then I plan on growing to waist length.
Good Luck. Are you already at your goal length?

Healthy hair is beautiful no matter what length it is.

She's ALLLIIIVEE!!! I was starting to worry about you, AAlure!
I haven't tried that product. But I heard Matrix makes good products in general. I would think it's safer to leave a little dirt in your hair. If it needs to be clean, your hairdresser can deal with it.
She sounds pretty sympathetic to your dilema - sounds like a nice colorist to have.

Whoa weird...I was just talking about elimin8 on another topic.
Rusk's line is professional, and I don't know about "color erase." But both are going to pop open your hair cuticle, which will cause damage. =/
It's really good to see you again!

I have heard of Color Erase. Years ago (the 80s, actually) I went thru a blue-black phase with my dark brown hair. I wanted NO trace of brown whatsoever in my hair. Suddenly, I got tired of the black hair and my stylist said "Okay, but if I do it, it's done!" She made it sound like if I wanted to go black again, it would be a while before I could. That was fine. She used the product on me and voila! gorgeous, brown hair again. I haven't gone back since... did the trick and I was NOT sorry! It did not damage my hair. I do know that I would be reluctant to try it by myself, even though I'm fairly adventurous...

Ahhh, I'm a cry baby. I ended up not going to my appointment. I was just too scared to lose any length. I am looking at it like this, what do I want more...Hair that is all one color or hair that is long? However, after my big summer growth spurt, it now seems for the last month or so, my hair is not growing at all. If it isn't one thing, its another!

Don't feel bad, you know what's best for your hair. If you were feeling that reluctant it's probably better that you called it off, anyhow. What is your natural haircolor, is it that bad that you can't let it grow out? I have done that over the past few years, just get a bit trimmed out at a time, now my hair's completely natural...and I'm itching to color it!
I'm hoping this is just a passing phase! Good luck!

Yeah, don't feel bad! I think you should be completely comfortable with what they will do to your hair before getting anything done.

COLOR STRIPPER IS BAD BAD BAD!
I have a step daughter who is 18 and she used color stripper on her hair and it made her hair dry as a dessert. Also it left her hair pocka dotted with black and blonde. That is the experience I have had. Just be careful with those chemicals. Not related to hair color but i got a perm once and it fried my hair and I had to shave my head!
I wore a wig for 6 months!

Don't worry about changing your mind about going to the appointment. Wish I had followed my instincts and not gone to my last haircut where the woman instead of trimming my hair cut off a whole inch that I had worked so hard to grow!!
