Greetings
Oct 1st, 2005 at 6:31pm

Greetings, all.

I've been "lurking" around this lovely site for a matter of months and finally decided to join today. I look forward to learning more from all of you and (hopefully) being able to share my own little experiences, tips, opinions, concerns, rants (j/k).

Now for the gratuitous info about my hair:

I have literally had to start growing it over again from scratch, so it is just past shoulder length now.

It is straight, thin and fine as spiderwebs (hence my screen name), and is also a very light auburn in colour.

For the past several years, I've been a die-hard Pantene addict. Velvet scrunchies, satin pillowcases and silk scarves have been quite helpful as well.

Alright, now for the gratuitous newbie question:

After conditioning, I always pin my hair up with a pterodactyl (or condor) clip whilst finishing my shower. At the very end, I remove the clip and give my hair one final rinse so the strands may lie flat. My question is....would it be safer to use a metal or a plastic pterodactyl clip? I've heard conflicting information about each, so now I'm turning it over to the "experts."  Wink

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance, and God bless.

Welcome, Angel Spun!  I hope you'll be posting a picture of your hair-I'd love to see the color you've described.
I'm wondering why you're clipping up your hair?  Is it because you haven't rinsed out all of your conditioner until the end of your shower?  Wet hair is extremely fragile-I'd recommend a shower cap instead of a clip.

Look forward to your future contributions!

Welcome!

Your description of your hair sounds lovely!  I too, hope you might share a picture some time.

As for clipping up your hair, I'd agree with Sakina that a shower cap is the safest, but if you must use a clip, the one that has the most rounded edges would be the safest.

Glad you decided to join, Angel Spun!  Smiley

I agree with Sakina and BB about using a shower cap. I always use one when I condition my hair when I wash it. If you do decide to keep using a clip, it might be a good idea to file down any seams it may have.

Hi, and welcome!

I'm curious too - do you clip your hair after rinsing the conditioner, or while using a leave-in?  Is it more so water doesn't get in your hair, or so you hair doesn't get in the way while doing shower stuff?

I leave the coniditoner in a for a few minutess after combing it through with a wide tooth comb.  I don't cover it, though I know people that do so that it can "sink in".  To keep my hair out of the way while doing shower duities, I just move it around - straight down back, or over the shoulders.

The reason I wouldn't use  clip is because when your hair is wet it has more elasticity.  It's easier to overstretch and break your hair.  I'd opt for a cap, or nothing at all.

Hope this helps!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes! It's so nice of you.  Cheesy

Please pardon me if I've been a trifle unclear. I use the clip either after rinsing conditioner out or after applying it to sink in. Either way, it gets it out of the way while I tend to my other "shower duties." heh

Yes, I've tried simply moving it around, but that hasn't really worked, and I rather loathe shower caps altogether. Might give it a try though. *shrug*

The clip has always worked best for me (the one I'm using doesn't damage my hair in any way). I was just wondering whether I should switch from plastic to metal.

As to posting a pic, I would love to do so in the future...if I can bother to get my camera fixed. It had a tragic run-in with a fruit salad some years back.  Undecided

Anyway, thanx again. You guys rock!

Sorry for not answering your question about plastic/metal clips earlier, Angel Spun. I tried looking it up on Google, but didn't really find anything. Since I don't know the pros and cons of plastic v. metal, I can only suggest that you use the clip that is the most hair-friendly and won't rust in the shower. If your current clip is working for you, by all means keep using it.

Hopefully someone will be able to give you more advice on this. Happy

Now, that sounds like a story in there Wink

Welcom Angel Spun.  Your hair sounds lovely.  Glad you've joined us here.  Sounds like your hair is about the same length as mine.  I've been seriously considering the satin pillowcase and silk scarf ideas now that my hair is long enough to notice Roll Eyes  Thanks for the reminders!

I've nothing to add to what's already been said about the plastic vs metal clips vs shower caps.  Just find out what works best for your hair.

Hello and Welcome!

It was probably pineapple; I've never trusted that fruit when co-mingling with the other fruits.  Grin
