Crochet boa
Oct 29th, 2005 at 1:16am

I started this little project last night, and it's almost done.  I thought I'd share because if you are crocheting gifts for Christmas this year, it would make a great gift,
Here is the pattern:

http://www.modadea.com/patterns/LM0184.htm

It is basically a single chain with 3 rows of loops.  It calls for a size P hook to do the chain, which I don't have, but it's turning out well with just a K hook.  I just did a little number adjustments.

I'm also using mohair yarn instead of eyelash.  It's sooo puffy and soft. Here is my progress so far:

http://www.eccentricus.net/khrome/images/mohairboa.jpg

The bottom part of the pic is the boa with all three rows.  The top part shows two completed rows.  I flattened the part in between so you can see what it looks like when it's not all curled up.

It's a pretty easy pattern, and fast to do.  The only hard part is seeing the chain through the mohair.  And not gagging on lint. Smiley

Very nice!  I knit a number of scarves last year.  Very quick and easy projects.  The new novelty yarns make simple projects so much fun.

Khrome, this is very pretty  Smiley

I've been making scarfs for the entire family already this year. Now I have to make some more for not "really family yet", like my daughter's boyfriend  Grin

Thanks all!  I finished it that same night, but haven't gotten around to taking a pic.  I will do that soon!

UNFORTUNATELY, I'm allergic to it!!  I was coughing and sneezing the whole time I was making it, but I thought maybe the yarn was dusty.  Then when I tried it on, it made me itch.  So I looked up "mohair" on the web and a lot of other people had the same problem.  ACK!  So, I'm still deciding if I want to keep it and only wear it over other clothing so it doesn't touch my skin.  I need to do more "test runs".  If not, I know a couple people who might adopt the boa.

Next time I'll make it with cotton yarn.

OH NO!  What a shame.  I can't work with mohair either.  Wool used to bother me, but now I seem to be able to work with it without breaking out in hives.

If you like doing scarves, there are LOTS of novelty yarns out there made out of synthetic fibers that shouldn't bother you.  There are even some that look and feel like mohair.

LOL  Seems like everyone I've talked to has tried it, and can't work with it.  I'm surprised the goats stay in business.

So as promised, I took a pic today.  This is actually my hairstick pic for my gallery - so that's why it's the back of my head:

Thanks ladies!

Juri - it's a weird texture.  Soft but itchy at the same.

Maggie - I did itch a little bit but I was more hot than itchy after the pic, suprisingly.  Nevertheless, I have on my To Do list to make one in plain cotton.

BB - it was very cool that they matched, especially since I didn't intend it.  That's another reason why I'll make a cotton version - so I can wear them with these sticks.  :-D

Thanks for posting that pattern, Khrome.  I'd been looking for a quick, cute scarf pattern for the Red Scarf Project and this worked wonderfully well!  The cats really like it too.   Roll Eyes
