Extra Long hair...
Nov 29th, 2005 at 5:34pm

Do any of you have hair around 3 feet? I do! I just wanted to know...what is the best brand of shampoo and conditioner for it. My hair is naturally really REALLY shiny, and it's kinda fine. FINE IS NOT THIN!!! It drives me mad when people say "your hair's so THIN!!!" Makes me feel like I'm goin' bald!!! Help!!! I want THICK hair, but nothing unhealthy!!! Oh, yeah. I don't cut nor do I trim my hair, I haven't for the last seven years! People are always amazed at how healthy my hair is (my only glory). But I want it thick! Cry

Welcome to LL, Igraine2005!   Smiley

My hair isn't three feet in length (yet), but there are members who have hair that long. People respond differently to the same shampoo and conditioner, so what works for one person may not work for another. Would you mind telling us what kind of hair you have (normal, oily, etc.) and what your shampoo schedule is like? That may make it easier for peple to give you shampoo/conditioner suggestions.

Thank you! Cheesy
My hair type is fine, gets oily towards the front (around my face) and is already shiny, not TOO many split ends, I don't generally have a problem with fly aways unless I put it in a pony. I wash my hair every-other-day (usually). I wash with whatever I have (I change around alot) once (unless really oily, then twice). I condition from the middle down and leave in for around two minutes. Then I rinse. I fix my hair for church on Sundays, sometimes curling, sometimes a simple twist. I don't often apply any heat to my hair, nor do I blow dry it.

Hi!  My hair is longer than 3 feet and very fine.  It has good shine now that I take care of it.  I use either Giovanni or JASON shampoo and conditioners.  During the winter I wash my hair about once a week.  I use jojoba oil on the ends for extra moisture.

Thanks for the extra info, Igraine! It sounds like you're already taking good care of your hair. Smiley I have a different hair type, but I wash my hair every four days using a quarter sized amount of shampoo that's been diluted in about 1/2 cup of water, and use Giovanni's 50/50 conditioner that's been mixed with some honey. If you want to start using products with less synthetic chemicals in them, besides Giovanni, Aubrey Organics and Nature's Gate are good. You should be able to find them in most health food stores.

As for getting thicker hair, unfortunately I don't have any suggestions. Sorry. Sad

Hi Igraine2005,

My hair type is like yours, fine and I hate it when people say my hair is thin as well.  What I do to make it look thicker is plopping, though I do not know how that would work with three feet of hair, can't wait to have hair that long! Grin Mine is only 18 inches.

hello,

why dont you try the morrocan method moon way of trimming your hair for thickness. i think a good trim would make your hair appear thicker and happier.  the morracan method tell you specific days to cut for thickness according to the moon.

Beesan, Giovanni and JASON are usually sold at health food stores. I don't know about the GNCs in your area, but the ones in my state sell some JASON products too.

Yep, JASON and Giovanni can be found at health food stores.  You can also find them at VitaminShoppe.com and sometimes Drugstore.com.

My hair from forehead to end is about 52'' last time measured. I also have fine, shiny, slick hair that doesn't get cut nor trimmed. As for fullness I don't worry about it much because my hair is up 95% of the time (I have 3 kids: 7, 4, and 8 months) it gets injured to much down. But on occassion when I do wear it down and want body I twist my hair into a bun or two when slightly damp and when I take it down (sometimes I leave it up for hours-anywhere from 4 to 8-and sometimes I put it up and then take it down for awhile to dry some more then put it back up) When I take it down it is in a big coil. I flip my head and undo the coil. The results is alot of wave and some curl. I might add some spray gel and finish with some hair spray ( not to much though). HTH!
BTW WELCOME TO THE  BOARD! I think you will like it here! Everyone is super nice and helpful!

the only thing that gives the "impression" of having fuller hair is: blunt hemline (especially recommended on very fine and straight hair). this doesn't necessarily mean far less growth (although, if you wait years before trimming, one might have to loose a lot to get maximum fullness in the ends). one of my friends started - finally - trimming her hair after 25 years and the difference was pretty amazing ... right after the cut i may say. problem is, she doesn't oil, uses very harsh stuff on her hair (bleaching, overdose of shampoo, bad combs and grooming technique), so a few month later it's full of splits again.
personally i trim monthly, even if it's just symbolically cuze i want more growth: no split ends at the very bottom cuze even with frequent combing, i cut too often for even white dots to appear. and the ends stay thick without noticing a lot of loss in length.

I guess I have more of a question, then comment.
I because of a relegious conviction haven't cut my hair in 13 years, and cutting/trimming it isn't an option, it is frizzy ( because ia have natural curly hair ) and I have a lot of broken off pieces, I also have had 3 perms, and have a tendency to pull off my dry ends or pick at them when I'm nervous,or stressed, which has increased the breakage.

I'd really like to grow my hair long, and it seems to have quite growing, I haven't noticed any growth in about 2 years.
I hot roll about 2-3 times a week, it's neccesary for my hair not to look so frizzy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Snow White;
I respect your religious convictions - can you trim just the split ends?  This is not the same as trimming the whole length, but just trimming the splits off where they occur.

Perms are very hard on your hair.  Besides changing the structure (to give you curl), they are very drying.  Make sure you are  using moisture rich conditioners.  I'd also suggest trying to add a drop or two of oil to the length of your hair on a regular basis.  The oil with help replace lost moisture which will give your hair more shine and flexibility.

Playing/picking your hair will not help it, as you know.  You might try wearing your hair in styles that minimize your opportunity to further any damage you have.

Good luck!
