Love my sock curls!
Dec 14th, 2005 at 1:10pm

I tried sock curls for the first time last night before bed. This morning I took it down, and WOW! I LOVE THEM! Will be doing this more often. My kids thought I was nuts for having socks in my hair.  Grin

Fantastic!  I love to sock curl my hair as well.  Hubby has grown accustomed to me having strange things in my hair and has even offered old socks to me for curling!

I'm so glad to hear it worked for you, because your hair is so long and I've always wondered if there's a point where sock curling fails to work... or requires foot-long socks.

Congrats Grin

Thanks everyone! Well, Anais I actually do use my husbands socks an they are quite long.
Ya know I wonder if using smaller socks and more of them would produce more curl futher up the length of the hair? I found that when I used two socks that the curls were only from about shoulders down.
BB, how do you curl?
Hang in there Beesan!

I use 2, 4 or 6 socks, depending on the amount of curl I'm trying to get.  When I use 6 socks, I part my hair down the middle, then create 3 sections on each side, then roll each section onto the sock.  This gives more body at the root.

Sometimes the 4 and 6 sock curls will be too tight of a curl for what I want.  In those cases, I will use 2 socks at a time (doubling the number of socks I use).  This gives a thicker sock to curl the ends around and leaves me with a softer curl at the ends.

I also have these soft roller things with snaps on them.  They work well for rolling my braids around.

Sock curls are a variation of rag curls.  You wrap your hair around a clean sock, roll it to the scalp and tie the ends of the sock to hold the hair in a modified bun.  Sleep on this, and in the morning you have lovely, soft curls!  If your hair is slightly damp when you roll it, the curls will last longer.

You can use one, two, four or more socks, depending on the length and thickness of your hair, and the desired amount of curl.

Hi Reeses, my signature link has visual instructions for sock curling. The idea is originally from hairboard member Marianne, who got fabulous results from them.
