Dreams into stories
Jan 8th, 2006 at 4:41pm

Some of you know I use my dreams to create stories. I had three dreams this past week. In one, I was a shark. #2 I was a woman, maybe 30. In the last, I was a scared 18 year old high school senior boy who just finished a greuling college interview coming home only to find no one there to greet me at the bus station and drive me home. I was pretty sad and felt pretty lonley in the dream. This third one inspired this condensed story that may end up as part of my novel.

-------------

Joe woke as the bus slowed to enter the bus terminal on the outskirts of Lymann Heights. He looked down at his blue letter sweater and played in his mind what the college baseball coach told him earlier.

"Son, that Varsity letter means nothing here!" the coach growled.

Joe worried about several things. He played in his mind the last thing as he left the college, "We'll let you know. We'll let you know.... We'll let you know."

"What if I'm not accepted. What if I blew the test? What about that error I made on that ground ball when I tried out for the baseball team? I hope I did well enough to make it!" worried Joe as he slowly walked to the lobby of the bus terminal.

"I hope Kayla remembers to come fetch me. It's a long walk home and Mom and Dad are visiting my older brother." worried Joe more as he searched for his steady girl and her long wavey blonde locks. He searched and searched but could not find her in the almost empty lobby.

"Kayla forgot me! How could she do this to me!" wailed Joe.
"Are you OK?" asked a bystander.
"I'm looking for my girlfriend. He has blonde wavey hair to here. Have you seen her? She's pretty conspicous." pleaded Joe as he motioned to the top of his legs, the length of Kayla's hair.
"No, I'm sure I'd notice that look. Haven't seen her." replied the bystander as he left.

"Kayla, you had better have a good excuse for THIS one. Now HOW am I going to get home? I guess I'll call Mike or John." worried Joe outside on the sidewalk carrying his baseball gear and a notebook.

As he walked to a pay phone, a familiar sight caught his eye. Joe fixed his tired eyes on the blue Nova with white stipes being driven to the lot and to the sidewalk curb where he stood.

"Kayla! Why do you have Kirb's car again!" shouted Joe as ran to the driver's window.

Joe was surprised to see Kirby Ann, Kayla's best friend, not Kayla as expected.

"Kirb? Where's Kayla?" wondered Joe as Kirby Ann opened the door to greet him.
"Kayla and the cheerleaders are celebrating." smiled Kirby Ann.
"You mean they won?" exclaimed Joe.
"Yes, they move on to the semi-finals. They all went to the celebration in two vans. I sort of figured she would forget or she might not be able to get back here to get you since she wasn't driving. I came to make sure someone remembered you." smiled Kirby Ann.

Joe looked into Kirby Ann's deep brown eyes.

"Thank you, Kirby! You're an angel." sighed Joe as Kirby Ann opened the trunk for Joe to put in his gear and books.
"No I'm not an angel! Please don't say that!" declared Kirby Ann as they stood together behind her car.

Joe continued to stare into Kirby Ann's love starved eyes. He ran his fingers through her shining black knee length hair as she viewed his weary spirit.

"Kirby, thank you for remembering me. I'll always remember you long after we're gone out of this town to college." said Joe as he held her hand.

"No you won't. You'll be married to Kayla." smiled Kirby Ann.

"You're right, Kirby. You're not an angel at all. You are a goddess above all angels." said Joe softly as he longed to relive a past experience with his girl's best friend. Kirby Ann's resistance was weak and Joe longed for a friend to end this long trying day.

That instant, Joe and Kirby Ann crossed the forbidden line again with a kiss.

--------

Want to know about the other two dreams?

In the dream I was a shark, I was in the Pacific ocean swimming with other sharks around a 747 that a pilot maraculously landed unharmed on the ocean surface but began to sink. Moral here is I woke up hungry and solved my wayward dream problem with a 4am snack. The dream has one sound: glup-glup-glup.

If a 747 crashes in the Pacific, I had nothing to do with it!

In the other, I'm a woman sitting in the passenger side of what I believe was my car twirling long black hair around my index finger waiting for (I guess here) my younger sister who was driving my car.

All of a sudden, this other woman gets in behind the wheel and proceeds to carjack me and my car. I woke up at that point.

Thanks for sharing the dreams and stories, Rodent!  The dream references make your stories very vivid.

Keep writing, keep writing, keep writing!  And save everything you write.  Maybe you can start compiling short stories together?

That would be an interesting addition to the story, Sir Rat!  Might need a little adjusting to fit it into the current story line, but I'm sure you could figure it out.

Thanks for sharing - I love to read your stories.

Even the one about the shark?

This storyline will take place as a sub-plot nearer to the end of the novel. It's in April '73. The current story line is in Nov. '72 and comes to a climax in chapter 8. I write several chapters out now to avoid what happened to me with the first novel.

Last night I stayed up to midnight adding to this action.

Panpeus, I already save my dream-stories in an archive. Not all are like this one. Some older more sane ones can be found atRoadrat's Storybook Click on novels or stories.

Believe me, you don't want to read everything I write! Shocked
