Long Hair Styles
Feb 21st, 2006 at 1:11pm

I have had long hair most of my life, I have cut it short about 3 times in my adult life for different reasons. At this point I don’t see myself ever cutting it short again. I have always worn it down unless it’s very hot I’ll put it up. I’ll also put it up if I’m working in a dangerous environment were it might be damaged.
One of the big problems is there is not a lot of references to hair styles for men with long hair. There are also very few accessories for men with very long hair. My hair dresser is into guys with long hair so I am very fortunate.  I have a permanent braid that I do every week. I at times add several braids to the rest of my hair and just let it fall in with the rest of my hair. Those braids I don’t fasten, I just let them unravel on there own.
I was wondering if anyone had any Ideas or Pics of hair styles for men outside the traditional ponytail or braid that men have been doing for years.

It does seem that men are pretty limited with hairstyles once they've grown their hair long, doesn't it?  That's not fair!  Angry

My husband has long hair, and he really only does one of 4 different things with it - 1) ponytail  2) half back in ponytail  3) all down  4) all tucked up in skull cap.  Occasionally I'll braid the tail for him, but that's as fancy as he gets.  I have seen men wear a very tight sleek bun, pony tails with several elastics down the length (usually bikers), and long locks has chap stix for men.  They are shorter and more masculine looking, that would be a really cool change of pace.

Other than that, I don't really know what else to suggest.  I'll look around and see if I can find any cool alternatives.  HTH  Smiley

Maggie's suggestions are the same as I would have.  I've known very few men that are comfortable with wearing their hair in a bun, but I like the look.

A lacer is one more option to consider.  Natural Rogue has one in his avatar picture.  It gives the appearance of a braid without doing the braid.  Most of the lacers I've seen are made of leather with plastic, wood or metal beads.

Good luck and let us know what works for you so we can pass it along to others!

Yes, us men do seem to be limited on styles, but I like styling my hair. I'll do whatever style I feel like doing, a ponytail, bun, braid, down. It's just above the bottom of my shoulderblades, but I'm still growing it out
