Hair Research Timeline
Feb 24th, 2006 at 5:16pm

Hello ladies,
For my Graphic Design course, I have to design a timeline for "Caucasian Hairstyles from 1920-1980."  I was wondering if anyone knew of reputable websites that catalogued this information.  I'm going to post some that I find, as well.

In my timeline, I'm trying to correlate the shifting of hairstyles and trends with various social and political events.  I'll post the timeline when it is completed.  It's going to be about 5 feet in length.

Any information accumulated here would be incredibly helpful.  Thanks.  Smiley

I know I've posted something on this in the past, I'll have to see what I can dig up for you.

In your research, I'd recommend costuming sites for period hairstyles - they seem to know the most.

I googled "Hairstyles history" and got http://www.costumegallery.com/hairstyles.htm
You can find them and see for yourself if they're helpful or not
I'm in a history of costume class and find it very interesting to see how society change the way clothes and hair was worn. Good luck on your project

Thanks for the replies.

I found the MOST INCREDIBLE BOOK for my project a few days ago.  It has illustrations and descriptions for hairstyles ranging from 2700-1400 BC to 1960 AD.

Here's the information: Richard Corson. Fashions in Hair: The First Five Thousand Years. Hillary House Publishers, LTD. New York: 1971.

SBN 391-00167-1

I will have to scan a few "plates" as the author calls them.  They're groupings of illustrations for particular areas.
