Hi all!

I am currently rehearsing for a play that takes place in 1959.  I am playing a 16-year-old girl who's mother does not want her to 'tease' her hair.  My character later enters onto the stage with a beehive.  The stage direction exactly as printed in the script is:

"Her hair is teased into a heehive fit for 'Mysterious Island."  It is HUGE."

I cannot go to a hair stylist to get this done before the show, since I enter half way through with it - and then need to take it out easily for the end of the show.

I was wondering if anyone could help me and tell me how to make my thick, wavey, an inch past shoulder length hair into a giant beehive that will be strong and sturdy enough to stay in while I run around on the stage and behind it, but can come out easily enough.

Yep - I grew up in the 50's/60's.  My sister wore her hair in a behive.  I think she used a can of hairspray every day!    Definately not a style for quick changes or even caring about the health/quality of your hair.

A wig would probably be your best bet for this type of hairstyle.

Yeah, you couldn't do a real beehive inbetween scenes.  I used to tease just my bangs in the 80's and that took 15 minutes on a good day!
