damaged hair again
Aug 18th, 2006 at 7:06am

hi everyone.  i tried one of the tips someone gave me on avoiding heat tools.  i combed my wet hair like every 10 mins for about an hour.  then i put the blow dryer on cool to finish drying it.  is this a lot better for my hair than using heat from the blowdryer?  will i see improvements by using it on cool?

Hi Jane,
If you have to use a blow "fryer",then it being on cool is better.  Try using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, deep conditioner and oil your ends to see if all that helps.  TLC and a reduction in using that blow dryer should help.! Smiley  There is a wealth of info.. here so browse around and soak up the info.!!

Damaged hair doesn't change overnight.  You'll have to be patient, and as Curlgirl says, use moisturizing treatments.  Hang in there and Good Luck!!

Hi jane,

I feel your pain, I can't always get away with not having to use the dryer, either.  When I do (anymore) it's always on the cool setting, but sometimes I just have to for time's sake.  I find it to be less damaging than using the heat setting, difinitely, but I wish I could do without altogether.  I also find that if I protect my ends with a little jojoba oil, that is a big help, too.  Have you ever tried using any kind of oil?  It really is a saviour to hair that damages easily, like mine.

Hi Jane,
If you must use a blow dryer, then cool is probably better than warm.  I've heard that ion hair dryers are better than regular ones.  If you want to avoid dryers altogether, I recommend trying a microfiber towel or turban.  It's light cloth that is superabsorbant, and will suck more water out of your hair than a regular towel.  Thus, cutting down on drying time.

I use a blow dryer as well.  I use it on the low setting and also, I only dry it to the point where my hair is damp and then I  let it air dry from there.  That may work for you if you continue to blowdry.

If you do decide to purchase an ion dryer, just know that in order to operate the ion function, the dryer (at least mine anyway) must be on the high heat setting, so that may not prove healthier for the hair.

Stop combing your hair when wet this is doing more damage than the harfryer. I would just wait until your hair is 80% dry then comb and fry.
