Glasses and/or Contacts?
Sep 2nd, 2007 at 10:51am

Do you wear glasses and/or contact lenses?

I have worn glasses since 10th. grade and there are times I wish I could afford lasik surgery but I have learned to live with my glasses.

I did try contacts but I got too impatient with them and I don't want to pay the extra money for extended wear.

So, if people think I look nerdy or geeky with my glasses that is their problem Shocked

I have worn glasses since I was 18 months old.  I did have a brief, glasses-free stint for about four years in high school, but it didn't last.

I have dry eyes, so contacts don't really work, and lasik is not an option when you have amblyopia (lazy eye).  Since one eye does 80% of my seeing, if anything happened to it...They won't do it.  I asked.

I got glasses when I was 8... I um.. lost them.... *innocent look* just before I was to visit my dad for the summer, a few years later, and had him take me to the optometrist to get contacts. Mainly because I knew mom would never let me - she was stuck in the days of hard contacts, and that at 13 I was far too young to take care of them, yada, yada... she was shocked when I showed her the soft contacts, and that I actually knew how to take care of them, and even did it! yeah.
I had colored contacts for a while, but I'm back to glasses now, mostly because I ran out of contacts, and my parents just... never got around to getting more. And I need a new prescription now, so I don't have the money to do that and change my eyewear again.

As for lasix, I can't stand anyone else putting anything near my eyes. If I do it myself, that's one thing.... but anyone who is not me, will cause me to freak out. And it's rather difficult to do eye surgery on one's self.

I wore regular glasses until a year ago when I was given the option of having bi-focals or not Tongue
I did not want them but I figured I would need them sooner or regular.  I hated getting bi-focals because to me it is a sign of getting too old Shocked

But, they do help except when I try to read the backs of CD's or some print on the computer monitor Roll Eyes

I had eye surgery when I was 5 for a lazy eye and have worn glasses ever since.  They are such a part of me and my identity that I can't think of me any other way!  I prefer them to contacts(can't wear them anyway)because they reflect my personality.

I had eye surgery when I was 5 and 15 which was similar to lazy eye but what they did was pulled the muscles back to where they should be.  The worst thing I remember when I was 15 is when the stitches came out (they were the disolveable kind) and I had to wear a patch on one eye for a few weeks.

I always thought I needed glasses because I sat too close to the tv but I am not sure if that is really why I had to wear glasses.

I've worn glasses since I was 18.  I wore hard contacts for a few years in the late 70's, early 80's, but eventually gave up and went back to glasses when I needed bifocals at 30.  Glasses are just a part of who I am.

I've worn glasses since the 7th grade.  I'm VERY nearsighted and am pretty much blind w/out them.  I don't like things close to my eyes, so I've never been able to wear contacts.  'Tis okay, though; I like my specs.   Cool

I'm freakishly nearsighted too, Trish... without my glasses, this text I'm typing is completely illegible... (looking over the top of my glasses to see) and i'm about 20 or so inches from the computer screen...

And now I'm dizzy from trying to focus without glasses. Brilliant, K...

I think I mentioned in another thread that my wife Barb had to get glasses?

She has had them now for just a little over 2 months and is happy to be able to see better now.
