Skinny gene found!
Sep 4th, 2007 at 12:32pm

I've always known that my predisposition to being heavy was genetic (you only had to look a family picture - every female is pear shaped and heavy!).  But now there is research that proves it!.  This article about the adipose gene shows that there may be hope in the future for better controls on weight regulation.

I'm not one to look for the quick cure - the pill that causes fat to melt away with no effort from me.  I accept responsibility for what I eat and my level of activity, but it sure would be nice to not have to work quite so hard to just maintain my weight!

I used to be skinny and a lot of people in school would always have to remind me of it Huh
I could eat and eat and eat and the only weight I gained was from the food Shocked  In fact, my dad used to call me Jethro (the character from the old tv show The Beverly Hillbillies because he had a huge appetite).
For a long time I thought I would never get past 125 lbs. Huh

Well, after I turned 30 that all changed Shocked
I am not obese and I don't consider myself fat but I have gained weight Tongue
I blame it on getting older and not being as active as I once was.  I still take walks and take the stairs instead of an elevator but I know I could do more but exercise is not as appealing as it used to be Roll Eyes
And, I should drink more water and less other drinks but I don't have a dislike for water but it is recommended a person should drink so much water a day (I knew how much but I forget now).

Between 64 - 80 oz., Jerry. More if you exercise with intensity.

Metabolisms tend to slow in most people as they get older. I can maybe see the benefit of regulating weight artificially for a very obese person who is at risk for heart attacks, strokes, etc. But for vanity alone, it seems pretty frivolous.
What strikes me as funny is that they actually felt the need to research this at all. Go figure that weight and metabolism would be genetic. Duh.
