a random question for the older ladies
Oct 13th, 2007 at 7:28pm

my grandmother, god rest her soul, had long hair for a good portion of her life. after her 5th child she had some problems and had to have a histerectomy (sorry for the spelling). she then started to have major hot flashes and decided to cut her hair real short to keep it off of her neck. she said it was like having a blast furnus (spelling) running full blast all of the time.

my question is for those of you experiencing menopause, does it effect how you feel about long hair and how do you handle this situation?

Every woman's peri-menopause and menopause experiences can be different.  Hot flashes and night sweats are two of the more well known symptoms.  I'm glad to have it done with (or at least the worst of it is over).  I agree, that keeping the hair up and off the neck during a "personal summer moment" does make it more bearable.  But at the same time, I prefer to keep my hair off my neck any time it is warm out.  I certainly would not tell any woman to cut their hair because of menopause.

I went through an early menopause at the grand 'old' age of 27 and its awful i took loads of tepid showers for the sweating but also took a soya supplement and switched from cows milk to soya and this made a huge different, it helped with the mood swings too. hope your Gran is feeling better soon, its the most horrible thing to go through xx

Hi,
I'm 52, keep it long and keep it up or in a braid.  Works great for me!  Hope that helps!
