Workout pain ;(
Oct 14th, 2007 at 1:54pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if I could get some suggestions regarding how to releave soreness after a workout.  I have a new program with Aerobics and weight training for the core.  I am in pain! Embarrassed  I do take a hot bath with salt but I need sometthing more.  Anyone have an idea I can try?

Thank you all! Kiss

I would suggest relax and take it easy until the soreness goes away.

You might also try some aspirine or extra strenth pain reliever.

That is all I can think of for now.

Hi, Lisabelle!  Sorry you're hurting so badly.  First off, make sure you're drinking plenty of water.  Second, after your workout, go for a walk.  This will relieve the lactic acid build up that causes the muscle pain.  Third, see if you can get some Chinese White Flower oil.  It smells like Ben Gay.  If you can't find that, try Tiger Balm.

The mineral Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant, so maybe add it to your vitamin regimin.

Good luck and feel better.

Oh, yeah, perhaps you could treat yourself to a professional massage.  That always works!!!  Grin

After you take that walk, stretch.  Potassium also helps the lactic acid move out of the body.  Sweet potato, banana, cranberries, that should also help.

You should always cool down after a workout.  Walking and stretching will help eliminate the lactic acid that can cause soreness.  A bit of ibruprofen will also help with the pain.  You also need to keep working out, but allow rest days for the muscles that are sore.  Heat will help keep the muscles loose, ice on joints will help reduce inflamation if you have joint pain.

Thank you so much!  I did not know I could put ice on joints.  My ankles and kness suffer.  I was wondering, how many rest days is normal?  I take about two out of seven.

When I start a new routine that will stress new muscles - I rest every other day for the first week or so.  Then I do the workout 2 days and then rest a day and do this for a week or so until I feel ready to add more.  In the bicycling world, there should always be at least 1 rest day after 6 workout days, regardless of the type of cycling you do.

Hope this helps a bit.
