Newbie-Hey there
Nov 23rd, 2007 at 1:05am

Hey everyone. I found this site looking for general long hair info.

I'm 22. I have curly, honey blonde hair that is just past mid back length.

I started growing my hair long in highschool with the intention of growing it to my knees. (I wanted super long hair ever since I was a little kid, but my parents diddn't allow it.) I ended up growing it to just a few inches past my shoulders and maintaining it there(family pressure). Then around senior year, I grew it to mid back length. I kept it at that length for about 2 years. At the time, however I really had no idea how to take care of long hair. Alot of the things I was doing to my hair, though, were making it look....how shall I say...less than ideal(that's putting it nicely). Trims were few, far between and miniscule(no more than a half inch every 6 months or so) It was heavily damaged and full of split ends. I realized I needed to take drastic measures but, like most longhairs, I was rather phobic of taking scissors to it and even more so of going to a salon(I had made that mistake early in the growing out process).

One evening, I was at my best friend's house. (When I say best friend, I don't mean that lightly. She is like a sister to me and I would trust her with my life.) She and I were sitting there talking and she told me she was going to cut my hair(not ask, mind you. She TOLD me she was going to cut my hair). She ended up cutting it to about 2 - 3 inches below the shoulders. There was alot of hair on the floor, but it looked wonderful. After that, I promised myself that I would take care of my hair so I would never have to cut that much off at one time again.

So now my hair is just past mid-back length. I trim it regularly and I'm alot more careful with it. Now that I am out of school and I know what I'm doing as far as taking care of my hair, I have decided once again that I would like to grow it to my knees. I know I have many years ahead of me to reach that length and I know it will be worth it.

Thank you for all of your replies. Happy

Here is a pic(not the greatest quality pic, but it should give you an idea):

...

Of course, when I took the pic, it wasn't as curly as usual either...lol...ja ne.

I'm sorry it took so long for me to reply with a pic. I am on a local TV show and we're preparing our season premier, so I've been quite busy lately.

So that's where my ex-husband's hair went!  Grin  It looks like you have his (former) type, colour and texture exactly. A lot of folks here have curly/wavy hair also and will no doubt have lots of tips to share! I'm a natural straightie myself, so I'm not familiar first hand with the process.

Anyway, good luck.  Smiley
