Black Friday
Nov 23rd, 2007 at 11:22am

I woke up early so I decided to venture out and check out black friday (aka - after Thanksgiving sales) and I did find a few things (mainly blue jeans which I was in need of).

But, I did notice some of the ladies and young girls had long hair.  I would have complimented some of them but for those who have ever gone out at this time in the morning and the chaos you will understand why I did not say anything to them Roll Eyes

I have to work today, so I was not able to venture out to the early morning sales.  It was sooo nice not having traffic to deal with on my way in.  Cheesy  Going home will be another story, as the shoppers, who have been out all day, will be heading home for dinner and will mess up my drive home. Tongue

Glad you got some good deals!  Anyone else get a good deal for going out early to shop?

My sister-in-law got a flat screen tv for $800.  It was on sale at Sears for $1,300.00 until noon, but someone brought in an ad that showed it on sale somewhere else for $800.00, so the clerk gave all the people standing there at the time (about 4 I think) that price.

I did not have the same luck.  Hubby and I got up at 4:40 to go to Best Buy for a $300 computer for our son.  The doors opened as I walked up to the store.  There were probably about 300 people in line.  It took about five minutes for them all to walk past me so I could go in.

When I got in, people had loaded carts with stuff, and then were saying, "Yeah, there's none of those left, but I can let you have mine for $20.00."  Basically scalping the merchandise!  Of course with the store so crowded the employees didn't have a chance of stopping them, since they were busy with the legitimate customers.

They had aisles that only went one way, with an employee standing in front of a barricade letting people in.  Of course there were no $300 computers left by the time I got in the store at 5:10 a.m.

I should have known better, since there was a segment on the 10:00 news last night showing people standing in the snow waiting for the sales.  I know that won't have significance for you more northern people, but it snowed in Dallas yesterday around 4:30 for about 45 minutes.  So people waiting in the snow meant they were in line 12 hours before the sale began.  Most sales began here around 4 - 5 am.

My husband said, "What do you want to do?"  I said, "Go home and go back to bed."  So we did.

Barb slept in so I went by myself.

I first went to Shopko and then went over to Target and stood in line for about half an hour until they opened at 6am.  It was kind of cold, foggy and snowing just a little bit.
Once I got in I bought two DVD's; Seinfeld Season 8 for $14.99 and Spiderman 2 (2 disc) for $3.98.

Then I went to Staples and Walmart and bought the blue jeans for $7.50 each (I bought 3 pairs).

I have never got out to those sales on Black Friday, and I don't plan to.  I did a little net shopping since I got some great discount coupons from sites I subscribe to.  That's enough for me.  I have a tendancy to shop year round, so I don't worry about those crazy adverts.

I'm with you, Jerry, I got a coat that I needed to buy for me this winter.  It was on sale and I got my email coupon so I made out quite nicely on that.

I would not venture out on that day unless I was given a large sum of money that had to be spent during those hours. And then I would have to bike or walk.

There is only one thru road thru the retail area of four connecting cities out here. On any given Saturday, it's basically impassable. During rush hour, it crawls to a point I was able to bike the 8 mile stretch faster than driving it. (because I could pass all the cars on the 12 inch shoulder and only wait ONCE at each traffic signal!)
