Train

This is something we do not see around here very much any more.

But what I thought was interesting is that the caboose was in the middle of the train Roll Eyes

There are many freight train tracks where I live. That's one thing that I am accustomed to seeing. Go fig...we don't have snow, but we have freight trains! hehe That is weird how the caboose is in the middle.

I see freight trains all the time (I like to race them on my bike!).  I've seen a caboose in the middle of the train, and even right behind the engines.  I figure they must have picked up cars along the way which would put the caboose in the middle.

How many of you have ever ridden on a train?  As a small child I criss-crossed the country several times via trains.  About 10 years ago, hubby, our son and I also took a train from Seattle to Glacier National Park and then on to St Paul MN.  It is a shame we have become such a rat-race world that trains are too slow for most people.

Most of the freight trains do not use a caboose like they used to but now and then we do see them like the day we took the picture.

I have never ridden on a passenger train but I did get to take a very short ride on an engine when I was about 7 years old Cool    The thing I remember the most is how loud they are when you are on them Shocked

We have a freight train crossing a few blocks away, thankfully there not allowed to toot there horns!  I use to take a diesel train to work everyday when I lived on Long Island.  I miss those trains, they were fun!

In the town I live in, we have an average of 25 trains going thru here every 24 hours.  They arent supposed to be able to block traffic for more than 15mins at a time, but they always do.  I wish we had snow.

That makes sense.

The only "train trip" I have ever taken was many, many years ago on a class field trip when I was a kid. It was only from central county to north county (about 1 hour by car) and a verrry overweight classmate (whom I never particularly cared for) pretty much sat on me the entire time.  Undecided

My father, however, has taken the train to L.A. several times and likes it because he can drink and sleep as much as he wants on the way there & back!  Grin

I had model trains when I was single. Computer controlled, of course. The set-up I had (but later took apart to move) had two cities and 40 feet of track between them. Modeled to represent 1969.

I rode Amtrac once to the Octoberfest on the train. Bad experience with all the drunks. The ride out was nice with the fall colors. Also rode many times as a child but barely remember them.

As part of my basement rehab, a new HO scale train room was added to accomidate a 4x12 foot display. It won't be built for a bit, though.

I used to baby sit for a family that had HO scale trains running all over their basement (which was off limits to their young children).  After the kiddies were in bed I always enjoyed running the trains.

I took the Jungle train through the jungle canopy (hence the name of the train) in Costa Rica while on tour there with Young Singers of Missouri in 1984.  I've gone from Lansing, Michigan to Toronto Canada several times on AmTrak.  That's a long trip.  Now that I think about it, I took a train from Bandung, West Java, Indonesia to Jogyakarta (also spelled Jogjakarta) in order to catch a plane to Bali.  It was really beautiful.  We were lucky, an hour or two after we left there was a riot in Bandung!

Wow, I didn't realize I've had so many train trips.  I wonder when and where the next one will be??
