Wacky Warning Labels
Dec 12th, 2007 at 8:43pm

I saw this on the internet today, it gave me quite a laugh.

The Wacky Warning Label Contest, now in its eleventh year, is conducted by Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, M-LAW, to reveal how lawsuits, and fear of lawsuits, have driven the proliferation of common-sense warnings on U.S. products.

Here are a few...

A label on a small tractor that warns, "Danger: Avoid Death," has been chosen as the nation's most obvious warning label in M-LAW's annual Wacky Warning Label Contest.

Iron-on T-shirt transfer warns: "Do not iron while wearing shirt."

Vanishing Fabric Marker cautions users: "Should not be used as a writing instrument for signing checks or any legal documents.

This one is very funny, it's the cover of a book on wacky lables. Grin

I once saw a warning label on a hammer that read, and I kid you not, "do not take internally"...   Huh

My favorites are:
on a kitchen knife: "Keep out of children"  Shocked
Chainsaw: I believe it read something like "do not attempt to stop chain with hands or genitals." Huh

What scares me, is that a lot, if not most of these labels, are created because somebody was stupid enough to do these things.  Undecided

Oh, it wasn't a warning label, per se, but on an bathroom/kitchen surface cleaner bottle, it had pictures of where it ought to be used, along with words. like, a picture of a sink  and a kitchen counter, with "sinks, countertops, etc"

My favorite, was "trash cans and pet kennels" with the accompanying picture: A child's crib.  Huh

Yes, some people have actually done the things the warning labels say not to do but the main reason they have them is to cover their butts because if people do these things and then try to sue them, they are not liable because they have that label on them Shocked

But,. I wonder how many people are stupid enough to do them because the label says not too Roll Eyes

Yeah, people are so sue happy now days that they have to put these crazy warnings on everything, it's a bit ridiculous. Maybe warnings should just read "manufacturer or distributor cannot be held liable for users lack of common sense".Tongue

I like the one on the bag of peanuts that warns that "this product was manufactured with equipment that is also used in the manufacturing and packaging of peanuts.".  Ummmm..... duh!!!!
