Growing again!!
Jan 26th, 2008 at 10:41am

Hello all! I am new! I'm not sure if this is where I should be posting this, if it's not will one of the moderators move it?

Okay, here it goes: I'm 19. All thoughout my life, my hair has been very long. In my sophmore year of high school, I cut it chin-length, decided I didn't like it, and grew it out again. Then in my senior year came the big blow: My long hair was causing extreme eczema on my neck and back. All the heat and moisture that was trapped under my hair was irritating my skin. So I chopped it.... and again... and again. Now I have very short, pixie-cut hair (which gave rise to my nickname "Pixie"). I have liked it for a long time, and it looks cute, but now that the eczema is under control, I want long hair again. I miss brushing my hair and feeling it on my shoulders and all that. So I'm growing it! I know all the info about growing long hair, but I was wondering if there are tricks to help me resist the urge to cut it. I know that in going  from this short length to a long length, it's going to grow thorugh some pretty weird stages, and when I get annoyed, I cut my hair.
Put pictures of pretty long hair in my room? Call a friend to stop me going to get it cut?
I don't know if this will help, but I'll give some info about my hair: It's pretty red (think Irish, people!), and the actual hairs are very fine, but I have a LOT of hair. When it's long, it's really thick.

Thanks so much, and I hope I can continue on my journey!!

hi pixie,
i joined longlocks to grow out from a pixie cut too. i had pixie hair last january, and this january it is just brushing my shoulders, so about seven inches of growth this past year (i had a half inch trimmed a few months back.) many folks on here already have long hair, i don't yet, but it is much  longER than it was, which is a good feeling. if your pixie cut grows out like mine did, you may go through a "mullet" phase where the back feels long but is actually just the bottom pieces and the sides are still short. i recommend trimming those back pieces so the sides and top have time to grow out. it will feel a bit shorter for a while, but then when it does reach your chin and then shoulders it will all be there together and you can actually style it. good luck!

Hi pixie, it is great to have you here Smiley

You have started in the right direction to growing your hair long again by coming to this forum.

Many of the ladies here are very experienced and knowledgeable about growing long hair.

If you do get the urge to cut just come here and you will get the encouragement you need to leave your hair growing like you really want.

You have my favorite color of hair Cool

Good luck and I hope you keep coming back.

Thanks!  Smiley My hair grows like a weed, too, so I don't think it'll even take as long as I am expecting for it to get shoulder length.
I was watching a program on TV about weddings, and I started to think... and I just couldn't picture myself walking down the aisle with short hair! Something about it just seemed weird to me...

Welcome!  I've grown my hair out from a pixie 3 times.  There are always those awkward stages.  I found it helps to get it to one length as quickly as possible - while it is actually fairly short, that way you can enjoy the length when you can finally feel like it is getting long.  It is also easier to style hair that is all one length.

Good luck with growing out your pixie, and be sure to hang around here for some great ideas on keeping it healthy and lookd good.

Welcome!   Smiley  How about finding a hair accountability friend?  Tell one (or more) or your friends that you're serious about growing your hair long and you need their help to talk you out of cutting.  When you feel your hair is driving you nuts, you just call your HAF (hair accountability friend).

Get a picture of yourself with short hair - the dorkiest pic you can find - and put it up in your room.

Find other things to occupy your time and divert attention from your hair (jobs, relationships, crises, chocolate and piercings all work).

Hang out with long-haired people (in real life, not just here).

Go to Midieval Times and drool over the long-haired knights. Ohhh yeah... ... (only if you're single though!)

And my own personal trick: Remind yourself how much time, effort and money you spent in the process of growing your hair. You want to throw all of that away? Didn't think so.  Wink

I had a pixie growing up.  I was a competitive swimmer from age 5, so my hair was wet most of the time.  Grin  I grew it out in high school the first time after a disaster with a perm.  I found I liked long hair and short hair, but nothing between!  So I am all for growing it out as fast as possible Wink
