pet birthdays?
Apr 1st, 2008 at 8:21pm

A random question. Those of you who have pets celebrate their birthdays? I mean, if you know the date, that is.  Is it weird to do so?

anyway, if you're a weirdo like me, I say we should list our pets' birthdays (or as close as we can figure) and offer them happy birthday on their special days.

Anybody up for it?

Today, april 1, is my Emma's second birthday... she's definately an april foolskitty.  The rest of her litter was born in the early afternoon on March 31, and we thought her mother was done giving birth. I was awoken at 3 AM the next morning by her mother meowing and screeching... the last kitten was stuck half in, half out. I had to help pull her out, and at first, she wasn't breathing. A bit of rubbing with a towel and nose-cleaning-out later, and little Emma started breathing on her own.

Not to mention, I've always heard calicos referenced as the jokers, the jesters, of any group of cats. Maybe it's the spotted, almost harlequinlike patterns on many of them (Emma's got a checkerboard face).

I gave her a manicure (clipped her claws) and half a turkey sandwich for her birthday.

Anyway, anybody else care to join in the fun?

My only female cockatiel's birthday is 4/1.  She turned 8 years old.  Her hubby turned 10 years old in December.  The oldest old fart cockatiel is 15 years old come June.  The canary I put him at 1,since the time I found him.  He's grown alot so I think he was a baby when I found him.  The biggest baby although tiny for a bichon (dog) is my pooch born on 12/10/95!! Wink
There's always toys and treats for everyone's birthday!

Oh, we always mark the occasion on the calendar (rather I do, since I'm in charge of writing b'days on each new calendar)!  When Sparky-dog was alive, we celebrated his birthday each year, by wishing him a happy birthday and by giving him a special treat.   Smiley  I/we don't think it's weird at all!

I always celebrate my cats birthdays.  Kat's is June 5th and Kali's is June 2nd.  I get them cat nip plants or some other treat.  Last year, I wanted to get them these ice cream treats that are made for cats, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Sad

My cat was a random stray who wandered into my backyard one night by pure chance...and stayed.  Smiley  So I had no idea when her actual birthday was.

But she got pregnant very early in life - about as early as physically possible for a cat - so I counted backwards from her pregnancy and approximated her birth sometime in March of 1985. So from then on, I celebrated her birthday on March 1st.

So every March 1st, I would go to the store and buy her the prettiest collar that I could find and a can of Fancy Feast. Maybe some treats if I could find them. Sometimes, I would even decorate my room with ribbons and streamers and throw her a little party.  Grin

Ah, those were the days. It's still kind of hard to believe that she'll have been gone 8 years this May.

Yes. I know the Fox Terrier is Dec 16, 2003. For my two retrievers, I declared birthdays for them that are pretty close to when I think they were born.

1st one I declared on July 4. She lived to almost 14 when she died of some sort of inernal bleeding that couldn't be stopped.

2nd one I declared as Thenksgiving day. She is now 13 and with bone cance is near the end of her time. I'm trying to keep her as long as she
a) acts like a dog, ie, wags tail and glad to see to me, attempt to chase squirrels or at least bark at them.
b) continues to eat.
c) can walk on her own. She was given 3-8 months 4 months ago. I haven't seen much deterioration in the 4 months other than weight loss and the tumor's size.

My dogs are already spoiled. They get wished a happy birthday, maybe an extra belly rub or so, but their level of spoilage is pretty rotton to start.

Well, everyone, my dog died at 5:45 Tues night by euthenasia. I stayed up all night Monday with her and most of the day Tuesday with her. She quit eating three days prior and couldn't stand after Monday evening. This detioration happened very quickly, in about four days.

I'm so sorry that you lost your dog. It's good to know that she didn't have to suffer any longer than she did.  My heart goes out to you.
