Timely article about sunscreen (and NOT just for women):

Excellent advice is given in that article.

One spot on me that I have to be careful about with sunburn is the part on my scalp.  My hair will naturally create a part and that is prone to burning, especially when biking.  I have "resolved" this by wearing a lightweight cap under my bike helmet.

that is really important info. two of my grandparents were diagnosed with skin cancer last year, but thankfully are doing well. i know it's something i should be careful about.
i was just wondering if anyone has tried all natural sunblock, like burt's bees chemical free stuff, for instance? i haven't tried it yet but am looking for chemical free sunblock if it works which i think is preferable to  the normal store products containing chemicals. although i guess absorbing some chemicals is still better than getting skin cancer, if it comes down to having to wear it.
what do you folks use?

Sunscreen is a nightmare for me, so for the most part, I no longer use it. I'm a native of dark, protected environments.  Wink

I have never used sunscreen in my life. I've also worn a hat outside since a very young age, so my face and nose have never been burned. I tended to tan naturally when I rode a bike regularly.

I am terribly fair skinned, and burn just *thinking* about the sun.   Grin  So I try to avoid the sun as much as possible.  Instead of sunscreen, I cover up with large brimmed hats and long sleeves.

Thanks for the link Trisha. Smiley

With my complexion I never have to worry about burning but I still tan (or bronze as I say) if I don't wear sunblock.  Although, lately I've been slacking big time. Roll Eyes  Maybe I should try a big hat too.

Ditto!

Since I live in Arizona I do use a sunblock on my face, its for babies and its called Noodle & Boo.  It doesn't irratate my sensitive skin.

Also, I have some great products from www.solumbra.com.

I don't burn easily but I have sun sensitive skin that's prone to hyperpigmentation so I wear min. spf8 in the winter half year and spf 50-20 from Spring and Summer.  I cover up the parts that are already spotted and blotchy.  I won't ever wear a bikini or anything that exposes my back.

i have medium light skin with an olive undertone so i've always tanned easily, but lately i've been noticing more freckles on my arms and nose, so i think i've been getting too much sun. i'm trying to keep my shoulders covered and to start using sunblock on my face. i may have to settle for a non-natural sunblock as i did some research and the ones that are most natural are not always effective against UV and also are super expensive per oz. i guess if that is the only non natural product i use on my skin it should be ok.
