One More Try
Jul 16th, 2008 at 7:01pm

I'm back! I found a new dermatologist who gave me a topical steroid that seems to be doing wonders for my eczema, so I am back to give it one more shot at growing out this pixie cut. I've found some pictures of hairstyles for the in-between time, and I will do it this time guys! I promise!
I guess the turning point for me (again) was a trip I just took to Ireland and England. I had to get up earlier than all the girls in my room because I had to dunk my head in the sink to get rid of the cowlick from sleeping, then let it dry (blow drying show hair turns it into a dandelion-looking fuzz ball!), then style it. All the other girls could wake up, throw in some leave-in conditioner, and tie their hair back. So much easier! Then, in looking through pictures, I realized that I looked like a lot younger than I though I did.
I always like my pixie cut, and I though it made me look sophisticated and older, perhaps more professional... but spunky too. It's hard to explain. Everyone around me says it's cute, but I just feel... weird about it.
The hardest part for me will be getting it past my eyes. Last time, my bangs were just starting to brush my eyelashes and it was driving me crazy. So I will get a good supply of bobby pins and headbands!

Does anyone have any pictures of in-between cuts? I found a few that look just like grown-out pixie cuts, but I think I might want to just try to get it into a bob as quickly as possible to even out the length.

Thanks for everything, and keep you fingers crossed that my eczema doesn't come back!

Welcome back!  Its great news that you got some meds that are working for you.

I'm sorry I don't have any pics for you.  I would agree that getting to a bob is your best choice at this time.  Then you can just let it grow!!!

About the bangs...its a pain no matter what.  Just be patient and use your clips, pins and headbands to your advantage at this time.

Here are some pictures of me now: my hair is freshly washed and dry, but not styled.
Please pardon the bad face edit. My PC is too crappy to deal with my camera's software, so I normally use my camera strictly with my laptop, which is at my sister's house right now. Hence the bad Paint spray tool to edit my face out. Grin

Welcome back   Smiley  I'm glad you're giving this another try.  While I have no photographic examples, I do have some advice.  Simply realize, that is acknowledge to yourself, that this growing out phase is going to be an aggravation for about 2 years.  It's going to look bad, it's going to get on your last nerve, etc.  You'll wonder why you ever began this journey and you'll question your motives.  But remember that hope (i.e. long hair!) is really just around the corner, and that's the prize.   Cool

Welcome back, Pixie.

Sorry that I don't have any in between pix either, but I do advise getting regular trims while you grow your hair out. Healthy ends = healthy hair.

Once my bangs reached the bridge of my nose, I just flipped 'em straight back. When they were wet, I would comb them straight back and let them dry that way.

Stylish headbands are wonderful things. Get a few in different colors & finishes to coordinate with your outfits and you're set.  Wink  And if there are pieces of growing out bangs that stick out a little, you can either a.) not worry about them or b.) slick them down with aloe gel, hair gel, hairspray, whatever your preference.

I hope that your eczema doesn't return!

hey pixie-
best of luck with the growing out process...you can do it. don't even think about the other times you may have tried to grow out your hair...just think about how you plan to do it now and then make some small goals, like chin length for the sides, then below the chin, etc...you'll be encouraged then by growth you see on your way to your long term goals.
you have great color!

I had a tangle in my hair this morning! This may not sound like much, but short hair doesn't really tangle, so when I slicked a comb through it to lay it flat, and the comb got stuck, I got excited! Smiley
I haven't cut my hair since the beginning of June. As I am scrapbooking my trip to Ireland, Wales, and England, I am using that as inspiration. There are so many pictures that I love, but I wish I didn't look like a little boy in them. I may go to Italy next summer, and I am focusing on having a cute bob in those pictures!  Smiley In a few months, the hair around my ears should be down to my jaw bone, so at least I will have a length on my hair instead of several. Then it's just a wait until all the little layers grow out!

Congratulations Pixie!!

I had that exact experience growing my hair out!   Cheesy   Mine was short and black and purple - I looked like Trinity from the Matrix.  The back was 1"-2", and my "bangs" were chin length.  It was an awesome look, but WAY expensive.   Smiley

I remember the first day I could pull the bottom in the back into a little nub of a ponytail!  I was so excited!!

It takes time, but it is so worth it.  You will see the changes on practically a weekly basis until your length gets to your chin.  I used the little tiny claw clips to pin it up/back/away from my eyes.  They are really gentle and I didn't have any instances of pulling my hair out or breaking it.

We are here for you!   Smiley

Here's a pic of my first stage:

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh90/SOFcowgirl/selmablairbikinispuhq97uj1.jp...

That's what I'm hoping to get to by December. My shortest layer  is currently about two inches above my ears, so I think I can get pretty darn close to a chin-length bob like this by Christmas. The actress' name is Selma Blair, she's great!
