I'm sure I've been here before...
Aug 15th, 2008 at 1:39am

Hello Bikerbraid and everyone else!  Years back I found LongLocks for hairsticks (I see I'm still in the kudos section, look for Elizabeth Regina) and I think I've posted here a time or two but can't seem to find myself so am starting with a new login again.  While I have long hair I'm really here to ogle hairsticks and read about what Bikerbraid is up to these days.  She was one of my first friends online and I want to play where she plays.   Smiley

YEA!!! BP is back!!!!  Yippee!! Let the fun begin.

As a little background - the Birthday Princess and I used to "play" together at another longhair site (that is now defunct).  That transitioned to a longhair chat room (that is also defunct).  Gee I hope this doesn't mean LongLocks is going to go away!!!!  We spent many evenings chatting about longhair and other irrelevant subjects.

BP - Sir Rat and Jerry are around here too - I'm sure they will pop in with their howdy-do's before too long.

Even if you are only here for the hair toys - please share your longhair story - it would be an inspiration to many here.

Thank you for the many welcomes.  Bikerbraid, Sakina is trying to get me hooked on crack again!   Cheesy

Ratty and Jerry are here too?  How funny.  I was thinking of them today as I swung by Rico's.  Hmm, my story an inspiration?  I have long hair without going through the process of wanting it as it grew out.  Feels kind of like being a fraud among people who are working for it.   Undecided

Well, way back in the mists of time I was in eighth grade.  On a whim I began to cut my shoulder length hair from the left side and stopped at the back without continuing from the other side. To my 13-year-old mind this half and half hairstyle looked pretty neat (and I still think so today) so I had my mother finish cutting to about mid-ear level then shaving below while leaving the right side untouched. For about eight years I would periodically let the short side grow for a while, even to mid-back a few times, and then cut back up to the ear again.  I liked having the two sides as opposite as possible.   Smiley  My long hair was always worn hidden up in a hat with only the short side out and showing. Not many people knew I had long hair and that was a fun secret for me.

Eventually I decided to grow the other side out to see if that would get the long side growing again since it seemed to have stalled.  Having the length wasn't important to me, just the wonderment of what it could do was interesting to me.  I didn't even think hair was particularly beautiful.  I associated with witchy hair for a great halloween costume.  My hair was down so rarely that I didn't even know how long my hair was on the long side when I first found hair boards in 2002 and met Bikerbraid.  I had to go look in a mirror to discover it was at fingertip length on the short side then and mid-calf on the other side.  So 20 years on from the original haircut my brown hair with a just right bit of wave and fairy tale ends has the tippy ends at my ankle when pulled straight.  I didn't set out to have long hair, just to be out of the ordinary and handily that is still satisfied even without the half and half do.

By the time I realized this hair stuff could be kind of pretty I already had it with no waiting.  While that can be an advantage I think the people here have it good too as they grow out.  You already have a healthy knowledge that your hair is beautiful and that is a great thing to know!

Thank you for your story!

I always felt your story showed that you can have long hair even if you don't obsess over using just the right products, tools, etc.  If you protect it and leave it alone, it will grow!!

Do you still have your cap?

Yep, even knowing nothing about how to grow long hair it turned out pretty well I think.  Many of he wise longhairs I know tend to say what you aren't doing to your hair (skipping ironing, hairdryers, Sun-in!) is more important than what you do to it with products and potions.  Kind of like sugar cereals they are the fun part of your healthy hair care routine, enjoy playing with products but for the most part they won't make or break your hair.   Cheesy  At the same time I'm not delicate with my hair, I'm not overcautious with it.  Hair isn't worth being anxious over, give it time and it takes care of itself.  And while I'm spouting off with advice another thing would be the reassurance that doing unhealthy things to your hair is fine if it gives you the hair you want and you understand the consequences.  Your hair is for you so enjoy it!

Being safe in a hat protected my hair from sun damage and tangles well.  My favorite hat back then was a Greek Fisherman's Cap.  I wore it so much the brim fell off but I still have it and wear it occasionally as a beret!   Grin

Jerry, Bill and I are very well. We a planning an October trip to Yosemite with his father and that will be such a wonderful memory to look back on after Parkinsons makes him too frail to travel far from home.  My heart goes out to Barb, when I taught kindergarten summer always ended too soon.  It never helped seeing school supplies on sale from July on taunting me when vacation had barely begun.
