I'll be gone for a while...
Oct 1st, 2008 at 11:44pm

I know I don't post much anymore, sorry for that. Life has been hectic, and now it's going to be moreso for a while. We leave tomorrow for Georgia. We'll have no internet, no cable... no hot water until Paul can get an electric water heater wired in, since the gas lines are so corroded that the company refuses to turn it on until they're replaced.

I don't know what I'm going to do! I hate hate hate cold showers... I think I'm just going to wash myself with a washcloth dipped in the sink and go modified Sebum Only until we can get hot water, unless I can find somewhere to take a shower at. Maybe Paul's uncle will let me borrow his bathroom once a week...  By modified SO, I mean SO on the scalp, but wetting down the ends and conditioning them in the sink, since the cold water won't be touching my skin. I guess it's lots of updoes for the next few weeks!

Also, I've discovered that packing can be dangerous! I was carrying a box from the bedroom into the living room, tripped over another box on the floor, did a weird hop/jump/stumble thing to keep from stepping on a cat... and I'm pretty sure I pulled a ligament in my left knee, and damaged (I'm not sure if I pulled it or tore it) the muscle in the back of my calf. Walking is... um. fun?

Prayers, well wishes, etc for a safe and successful move would be much appreciated. We're going to need them, I think.

I am going to miss you lovely ladies and gents.

Thanks for checking in and letting us know.  I hope you'll have an excellent move and hot water sooner than you think.

When I was in Indonesia the first time we bathed out of a big bucket mostly of cold water that had some boiled water added.  Then there was a plastic pot about the size of a sauce pan we used to pour the water over our selves.  It worked, after I got the hang of it!

I look forward to hearing from you when everything gets settled.

Safe journey!

Glad you popped in to give us an update.  I hope the move goes well and you have hot water quickly.  I know what that is like as well..... not fun, but you learn to manage surprisingly well.  If the sun is shining - you might try using the sun to warm water for you.  I use solar heated water for showers all the time when we camp on our land.  You can buy water bags specifically for this purpose, or, just put water in big black pot and set it in the sun.  It might mean you shower/bathe in the late afternoon instead of evening or morning, but at least you know you can get clean with warm water.  Cheesy

Good luck!
