Short(er) hair curls

...

As you can see, I washed and rolled my hair last night.   Smiley  And I promise to post a shot of my shorter hair in its natural state soon.

That looks absolutely gorgeous.  I'm so envious.  My hair never turns out that way when I roll it.

Thanks, Lisa   Smiley

Drear:  Well, there are any number of factors involved as to why your hair isn't turning out the way you want it to.  Hair texture, to name one.  I have fine hair and I believe you have Asian hair, yes?  At least I remember reading that somewhere.  You may need to try a different size of curler.  You may need to use a setting gel or lotion--or NOT use one, if you normally do.  A huge trick that I just learned (and I'm 47) is to finger-comb after you remove the curlers.  Never, ever use a brush or you'll get a bush on top of your head--unless you WANT bushy hair.  I don't recommend even using a comb since I think that tends to loosen the curls and makes them disappear faster.  I always roll under, that's another thing.  Any other tips I can send your way?   Smiley

Did you get your haircut, or is that an optical illusion?

I've been using mousse or nothing.  Nothing looks better than mousse.  I'm looking for setting lotion because some say it cures the frizz.  In the context of vintage styling it's normal to brush with a boar bristle brush and keep brushing until you have smooth waves but I might cheat and just gently adjust the curls with my fingers if that's the best way to get nice looking curls and then I'll accept that there'll be no glamorous waves.

My hair's typical Mongolid Asian I suppose; thick with a round diameter but very sparse in density/amount and the texture is smooth and coarse at the same time.  Someone recommended that I use perm sheets on the ends to make sure they get rolled up properly.  I just don't know if I can be bothered with that much trouble.
