Shine serum and frizz control products
May 28th, 2009 at 7:44pm

My hair is fine, wavy, curly and tends to get frizzy on humid days.  I have long looked at various shine serums and frizz control products, but am concerned that they will weigh my hair down.  If you have fine hair and have tried these products, what was your experience?  thanks.

Most shine and frizz serums are silcone products which can be heavy on your hair.  But, if your hair can handle -cones, your hair might be able to handle them.  Be careful to not over-use them.  Usually a very small amount is all that is needed.  I would also recommend using a vinegar rinse or clarifying shampoo periodically so that the product doesn't build up and choke the hair of moisture.

Thank you, bikerbraid.  You confirmed what I suspected.  I guess I will be leaving these products alone.

Ahem. I have very fine hair and use a serum almost daily. It isn't the least bit heavy...unless you use it in large amounts. Only a few drops work for the ends of my hair. Most people use oil in the same fashion, but oil doesn't really work for me.

Since I live in a very arrid climate, I don't usually have a problem with frizz. However, I can tell you that when you're looking at serums, it's best to avoid products with either "SD alcohol" or "alcohol denat." in them. It's best to avoid shine sprays because they almost always contain one of these. I also stay away from serums that contain oil. Right now, I'm using FX Silk Drops serum, which is basically cones, pro-vitamins and silk protein.
And contrary to the naturalists' belief that cone-based serums would build up on hair, they are actually very easy to rinse away. Presuming that you actually wash or rinse your hair every once in awhile, it shouldn't be a problem. Wink

Thank you, Angel.    Grin  I had to laugh.  Maybe I will try your suggestion, keeping in mind your strictures.
