So long for now

(Is that a bad pun?)
I'm about to head out on my annual week long bike trip.  We will be doing the Katy Trail in Missouri again this year, in the reverse direction, West to East.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and not be too hot and not rain too much.  Smiley

I will not be returning to LongLocks as a moderator.  My job and other activities have made it difficult to maintain a constant presence here.  I plan to still pop in and check up on everyone from time to time.  This is a wonderful, loving community of long hair lovers, I hope it continues to stay that way.  Everyone here is so supportive and respectful of each other.  You should be proud of yourselves.  Keep up the good work!

Good luck to all of you with your hair goals.  Remember, be gentle to your hair to keep it healthy and be patient to gain the length.

I guess you liked our trail to come back again. But it may not last. The state is giving up the rights to the Boonville bridge which may open the gates for all the adjacent landowners, (Who absolutely HATE the trail), to claim the old railbed. Temp today 95 degrees. It sill be hot all week.

Yep - it is a beautiful trail.  Just got home.  Weather was ..... ummmm... how to say this - HELL!  Wait, that is not true - it was worse.  Temps over 100, humidity in the mid 90%.  Too hot and muggy at night to sleep.  By the end of the week we were tired, sleep deprived, sweaty beyond mention and gritty.  But, on the plus side, the trail was in wonderful condition, better than I would ever have expected considering the weather that stomed thru in the recent weeks.  The other riders were great fun.  And once again, the staff did a great job handling all the unexpected problems that came up.

Bridge at Boonville?  I don't remember one there.  We did the new bridge into Hermann again this year and the bridge to North Jefferson City.  They announced that there should be a new bike bridge into North Jeff City by 2011 so that you don't have to ride so close to the traffic.

This really is a nice multi-day ride - I highly recommend it to anyone interested in ride that is not too challenging and has lots of beautiful sights to see.

Bridge at Boonville?  I don't remember one there.

This is actually a railroad bridge, not a traffic bridge. It is the only point where the KATY crosses the Missouri. It probably would be on your second day's ride just before you enter the city of Boonville. From that point, you start heading east rather than north-east. It isn't too far from the rail (trail) bridge that crosses I-70.

I would like to do this sometime with your group. Maybe the next time they go west to east. From there, it would only be another 18 miles home.

Glad you had fun. I was thinking about you suffering thru the 100 degree days. I had a case of heat exhaustion during this period as well, not having fun riding, but movinig rock. Was out of commission for 3 days.

Ah - yes, there was mention of working towards aquiring an abandoned rail bridge during last year's ride.  This year they were all about the Jeff City bike/ped bridge that is supposed to be completed by 2011 - the next time the ride will stay in Jeff City.

They change direction each year, so the even years are east to west, and the odd years are west to east.  It is a well organized ride - you should try to do it some time.

Sorry to hear you suffered with the heat - it was brutal.  Hope you are feeling better now.
