Too old?
Jan 2nd, 2003 at 4:36pm

My grandchildren (11 & 9) informed me that I am too old (54) to put bright pink streaks in my hair, my adult kids agree.   Sad

When my children were teens they resented the adults who copied their styles; punk, bag lady, gothic, etc.  They thought it was an invasion of their personal stlye.
It was not fair because they wore some very pretty skirts.  I loved my son's black velvet skirt and his electric blue hair that he wore when he played drums in their punk band!

Maybe when I'm 65 I'll be young enough to finally do what I want Smiley   My grandmother told me that 65 was a magic age where you could be a kid again!   LOL

I still say you can do what you want.  Society puts so many constraints on us that have no basis.  If the "little old ladies" can have their "blue" hair, why can't you have your pink streaks?  If you are even thinking you want them, I would guess you are a very young at heart kind of person and could get away with the colored streaks.

As a compromise, maybe you could just do bright highlights?

I'm thinking about long hair pieces that I can add to my hair.  Don't want to damage my real hair!

My daycare kids would love it!  My husband, extreamly conservitive, would die if I went outside of the house and one of his friends saw me.  LOL!!!

I wonder... if I ask my 32 yr old daughter to help me pick them out... Would she finally give in and enjoy her mother having fun?  It is her children who think grandmas should look like grandmas.

I remember my grandma's light lavender and light blue, short, fuzzy permed hair.  All of the old people of her generation had fun with colors.

Yes, I *can* have wierd colors!

Thank you Robin!!!

If I can refuse to cut my hair and get a perm, then I can refuse to look like a conservitive grandma   Grin

Linda;
I like the idea of adding "fake" hair and not running the risk of damaging your own hair.  There are some really fun fake hairpieces out there - both natural and wild in color.

Your kids/grandkids may "groan" at your youthfulness, but I would bet they would rather you be youthful than a stick-in-the-mud fuddy-duddy!

You have the right to control your own destiny - including - specifically - your own hair!

Have fun, live it up!

Really!  Remember, it wasn't all that long ago that a woman over 30 would never dream of having long hair unless she wore it up in a bun.  Have some fun, you only live once!  And tormenting the kids just sounds like bonus to me, LOL!

It does sound like fun, they might even learn that it is ok to be a bit different   Smiley
