Having fun with fake hair
Apr 29th, 2003 at 7:25am

I know that all of you with beautiful long thick hair will probably have no need for false hair pieces.  But when I had to cut so much off my hair and still only have it BSL I found that hair pieces were fun and gave me the encouragement to carry on 'growing'.

I have 7 different pieces including hair bands with curls, clip with spikey bits, short curly pony, long wavy pony etc.  My favourite is a very long curly hair attachment with hair clips that I attach to my normal pony.  My next favourite for encouraging me to continue with the fight for extra length is a long one that clips onto my pony and reaches my waist.

I think they are great for adding volume to your own hair and are great if you are having a bad hair day as they never do Grin

But I guess when my own hair reaches the length that I want then I suppose they will be relegated to the cupboard Wink

Haha this sounds like a lot of fun! Did you make these yourself or are they available in stores?

I got my first three from bellahair.com and once addicted I got the rest from different stores and web sites.

They are fun but they are all synthetic as I could not afford real hair and to be honest I don't like the thought of someone having their hair cut just to provide me with a hair piece!

OK, so I did it again.  I bought more hair stuff out of impulse, so sue me.  I got up early the other morning for work, and decided to relax w/ coffee and TV for a little, so I flip on the home shopping network, and behold......there is a woman selling fake hair pieces that clip onto your pony, and look great!  It took me all of about 10 seconds to decide that I MUST have one of these things, that I would surely not be able to live without it, mind you, I'm not really even awake yet at this point, and I'm already making life-altering decisions (he he!)  So I sneak to the computer, so as not to wake the sleeping husband, and order one of these puppies up...wrap 'er up & ship 'er out!  I still haven't received it yet, hoping maybe today UPS will surprise me, also hoping it won't end up in my hair accessory grave yard with the rest of the stuff I couldn't live without.  I'll keep you posted!

I just realized that I didn't even tell you guys what kind it was...geeze!  I think it's called the Toni Pony Clip, or something close to it, by Toni Brattin.  She had some different styled ones, straight and curly.  I chose a curly one, since my hair is naturally straight, I can hopefully just pull my hair back into a bun and clip this on, and I will look fabulous (right?)!  She also has fake bangs that are attached to one of those clear head straps, and there is 8" on either side of the bangs that are supposed to blend down into your hair.  I was tempted to try those instead, but I went with the clip first, and if I am happy with that, then maybe I'll treat myself to the bangs as well.  She has about a dozen different colors to choose from, I had a hard time picking between the light brown and the medium brown, they are so close, but I went with the light brown because it has some highlights in it, and so does my hair.  Hope it matches!  Wait & see, right?  ???

I've been tempted to get one of those "Toni Ponies"
as well.  They look like they'd be great for someone like
me as they would add some volume.    The only reason
I don't have one yet is I've been trying to reign in the
spending on hair accessories.

Yeah, I know, I have that problem too.  Some days after work I will sneak into the drug store down the street before heading home, just to "look" at the hair stuff.  Sometimes just "looking" is successful, but mostly it's not and I end up walking out with something I probably didn't need.  But the price for the Toni Pony wasn't too bad, it was about $25, and if I like it and actually wear it, then I guess it's worth it.  So I'm still waiting for it to arrive, but I'll be sure to let everyone know my 2 cents on it!

I thought it'd be great for those days when you don't have
time to style your hair?  Just pull it back-clip on the pony- and go!  Plus it looks a LOT thicker and nicer than my
meager  little tail.

I got something on that order from Beauty Trends, it is a pony tail that clips on and your own hair goes underneath in a little net. I have worn it a couple of times and it looks nice, it is wavier than my own hair and thicker and of course it isn't as long as mine. I got it for those times when I have washed and braided my hair into a whole lot of dumb looking little braids to dry (so that the next day my hair will have some kink to it) that I don't want anyone to see. Since I wash and braid my hair early, a few times something unexpected has come up in the evening when I need to look at least semi-nice and that is where the fake hair comes in handy. Wink

FINALLY!!!  The Toni Pony arrived today!  I only had a little chance to play around with it, and it looks great, but I'm having some trouble trying to attach it to my head.  I'll have to wait till I get home to have some fun with it.  I hope it works for me! Grin

OK, progress....I fugured out that I have to put my hair into 2 small buns, above and below each other, because one bun is too bulky for the jaw clips to fit around, but doing the 2 smaller buns works out perfectly.  The hair on it is really nice, it really does not look like fake hair the way they have the colors blended, it looks pretty natural.  What is really neat about it, is that you can wear it two ways just by turning the whole thing upside down.  One way makes it look a little shorter and less curly, when flipped it becomes longer, fuller and curlier (looks fancier).  I will probably use the less curly way the most, since I am not usually dressed that fancy, but I must say that I am not disappointed with it, I think I can recommend this with confidence...maybe I'll get the straight hair piece next!
