Cousin

this story sounds alot like leia's story of her cousin, my cousin Jordan had hair a bit shorter than classic length for many years, she cut it off to her shoulders and loved it.  Her face shape is better with shorter hair.  The prob. is her mom says she can only cut it after it grows to her butt again.  How stupid is that?  It makes me want to slap my aunt because my cousin also can't wear nail polish till shes 13, why, because my aunt couldn't wear it till she was 13!  I'm glad she's only my uncles wife and not my mom's sister.  I really want some assurence from this topic and my band topic.

What was her reason for making her grow it classic length again? Did the girl cut it against her mother's wishes? And now she wants to wear nail polish. How old is she, anyway? Not yet 13...um...12? 11? 10? 9?  I can see why a mother might get upset that her young daughter chopped off her classic length hair without consulting her. The mother herself had probably put a lot of work into the maintenance of that hair.

Hi drummergirl,

If your cousin is taking care of her own hair, then it should really be up to her how long she has it. However, if her mom is doing a lot of the work then she (the mother) should definitely have a say. In any case, your cousin should rationally discuss with her mom know how she wants her hair and why.

Ok, I'm sorry I didn't make this story clear.  Her mom knew about how she was going to get it cut, she said it was ok.  My cousin is 11.  The thing that gets me is her mother didn't take care of it, there were piles of broken hair, wet brushing, and TONS of splits.  It bothers me my aunt is so controlling.

Most people nowadays have very little idea of what healthy hair is.

The woman probably interpreted it as a sign of rebelliousness, and I'm guessing there was a bit of that.

When my daughter was 8 or so, we both had hair that was a bit below the shoulders. She insisted on taking care of hers herself, and refused to let me brush it out. But she didn't brush it out either, and it finally turned into one giant dreadlock, at which point she asked me to brush it out. ???

I was unable to make any progress, so I took her to the salon, where the stylist (a friend) had the amazing patience to work out the tangles without shearing it off.  Roll Eyes
