POLL: Galadriel's long hair trend poll
Jan 7th, 2005 at 10:45am

What's your favourite hairstyle? Hair toy? I'm sure that fashion magazines won't tell much about good long hair trends...so I'm interested in finding out, what the situation really is among long haired people.

1. What's your favourite way of wearing your hair?
2. Your favourite hair toy (just one, if you can). Why it's your favourite?
3. Do you have a hairstyle that you would love to wear but can't for some reason (too difficult to make, can't be made with your type of hair etc.)
4. Who's your long hair idol? (= a person whose long hair you admire and who inspires you)
5. Do you try to copy your idol's hairdos?
6. Do you have any great hair care tip?
7. What in your opinion is definitely passée?
8. What's the best hair length? (in general, not necessarily on you)
9. What's trendy next summer? Let your imagination run wild!

My answers:
1) At the moment, it's cinnamon bun. Fast, lasting and neat looking, and can be decorated with pretty hairsticks.
2. I love all my quality hairsticks, but my pair of LL SpiralStix are a true hair-saver on those days when everyting else fails. They're simple, interesting and above all...they hold my hair in a way that nothing else does.
3. I'd love to see, how a good crown braid looks on me. Also, it would be nice to have a long, simple braid decorated with a ribbon.
4.Princess Leia from Star Wars. In one SW book it was revealed, that her hair is knee-length!
5.No, I haven't nearly enough hair. But I like SW movies, and sometimes try hairdos inspired by other characters. These movies are full of long-haired ladies (and some men) with really cool hairstyles.
6. Spray often with rose water. Stay away from brushes except to spread oil.
7. Short, dyed, hair that's in bad condition.
8. Depends on person...hip length looks very nice.
9. Small carves that protect head from sun. Twin braids and buns.

1. In a donut bun. Simple and classic.

2. My silver dragonfly clip. My husband got it for me from a street merchant in New York when we visited there for the first time. Everytime I wear it, he has this pleased look on his face and it makes me happy. (I LOVE dragonflies. Susan - any chance of making green dragonfly hairsticks?)

3. Any kind of elaborate braid. I love braids but find them very hard to do.

4. Princess Isabelle from Braveheart. 'Nuff said.

5. I would if I had hair that long!

6. Avoid going to hairstylists on a whim. It will only end in tragedy.

7. 80s hair and mullets

8. Hmm...tough one. Hip length, methinks.

9. I know nothing of fashion. I live in the dark ages! (Classic dark ages...not trendy, that is.)

1. Braided bun, at the nape of my neck.  It's long enough now that it's not so much of a bun as it is a rope coiled at the nape of my neck.

2. Hairstix.  They are just.. essential to keeping my hair up and avoiding the "heavy hairdo headaches".  My LL hairstix are my favorite.

3. I'm not very good with intricate braids, but I can live with it.  I make a fabulous updo!

4. I'm with Rua there.. Princess Isabelle.  The movie took quite a few historical liberties (not to mention the hair extension liberties!) but her look.. so classic.

5. I never really got a good look at the hairstyle, so foo foo for now.  *must rent the video*  But I usually wear my hair up because it keeps it from getting damaged.

6. Wear your hair up.  We all like to adore the long locks, but I notice that if I wear mine down, it just gets tangled and dirty easier.  I have fewer split ends that need to be clipped at the end of the month when my hair's been up the majority of the time...

7. Ratty hair.  The 80's buffant tease and hairspray syndrome.. ladies, it's time to leave the aqua net behind...

8.  I tend to like hip length hair.

9. Err... Victorian tea dresses?  *smiles*  That's what I'll be wearing!

1. What's your favourite way of wearing your hair?
In an up-do, supported by hairsticks: current favorite up-do: 3 strand figure 8 braid with rapunzel sticks to anchor vertically

2. Your favourite hair toy (just one, if you can). Why it's your favourite?
SUSAN'S LONGLOCKS HAIR STICKS OF COURSE!!!!! For more than one year the ONLY thing I've used in my hair! Why?  Nothing else even comes close in beauty or artistry!

3. Do you have a hairstyle that you would love to wear but can't for some reason (too difficult to make, can't be made with your type of hair etc.)
A four strand braid - I've never had someone physically show it to me - and that's the best way for me to learn

4. Who's your long hair idol? (= a person whose long hair you admire and who inspires you)
Actually - our own "lady godiva" from these boards.  Have you seen her photos?!

5. Do you try to copy your idol's hairdos?
Well, no - as I admire not a "style" but the general health for her tremendously long hair - but I can usually mimic almost any hairstyle I see on tv, in the movies, or at ren faires.

6. Do you have any great hair care tip?
I find my hair splits far less often now that I have worn it in an updo every day for more than a year, and also - adding just a bit of jojoba oil to the last 10 inches each day before bed.

7. What in your opinion is definitely passée?
I'll add one more vote for 80's hair.  Just went through my 1980's photo album.  Good grief - what WERE we thinking.  I must have gone through one can of super hold hairspray per week! I'm glad my hair survived that decade!  Between the huge hair and the shoulder pads..... I just can't think about it!
8. What's the best hair length? (in general, not necessarily on you)
Anything waist length or longer - as long as it's healthy.

9. What's trendy next summer? Let your imagination run wild!
I'll agree with the victorian tea dresses!  As a woman who doesn't even OWN pants - I'd love to see skirts and dresses more frequently worn - (at least I could easily increase my wardrobe - It's so difficult to find lovely, attractive, and flattering dresses these days - most are geared for the 'business woman on the go')Nightowl

1. What's your favourite way of wearing your hair? bun with giant claw on the side. And it actually stays!
2. Your favourite hair toy (just one, if you can). Why it's your favourite? mamacat corkscrew sticks, they're the only sticks that don't slide out
3. Do you have a hairstyle that you would love to wear but can't for some reason (too difficult to make, can't be made with your type of hair etc.) French twist, too much hair, not flexible enough, too long
4. Who's your long hair idol? (= a person whose long hair you admire and who inspires you) Meg my costume designer/corset maker, used to be Demi Moore but I hear Moore cut her hip length hair.
5. Do you try to copy your idol's hairdos? no, we have drastically different volume and slightly different length
6. Do you have any great hair care tip? C.L.A.R.I.F.Y.
7. What in your opinion is definitely passée? the beehive
8. What's the best hair length? (in general, not necessarily on you) Waist or fingertip length (both golden ratios)
9. What's trendy next summer? Let your imagination run wild! the FBI agent Shay Stanley cut, kind of a half pixie kinda bob, it's angled a little differently than both.. and looks rather nice.

1.)Long and lose, but it doesn't look good like that, so
a half up style, or a french twist.(will change as it gets longer)
2.)a pelican style clip by Goody
3.)French braid(can't do it yet) and a top knot(hair not
long enough yet.)
4. Jane Seymour and Demi Moore (Demi Moore cut her Hair?!) more Jane Seymour.
5.)I would, but my hair is nothing like theirs, i.e.thick and shiney.
6.Vinegar rinses and Jojoba Oil saved my hair.
7.Big Hair 80's Styles
8. waist length, but individual with each person
9.  I predict big hair permed 80's will come back soon

1.  I really love any style that looks "Victorian", especially a loose bun with a few strands left out on the side  and curled so they are spirals.

2. My favorite hair toys are anything looks Victorian, especially my LL hairsticks.  I hate the hair orgami I can't do anything but make a big knot with it.

3.  My hair is only shoulder length, I wish it was longer so I could make a more loose victorian bun with it.

4.  My long hair idol is definately Claudia Black.  What I would do for long wavy black hair like hers!!

5.  I wish I could copy my idol's hair styles but my hair isn't long enough yet.

6.  No great haircare tips, take your vitamins, eat right.  (That's the nurse is me coming out)

7.  The worst hairstyle ever?  Definately the poodle perm and all ya'll who lived through the 80s know what I am talking about.

8. I believe the best hair length is the one that personally makes one happy.

9.  I believe healthy hair will always be in style.

1. What's your favourite way of wearing your hair? I usually wear it in a cinnamon bun lately, sometimes in a braided bun, and sometimes in a figure 8 or a variation on that.
2. Your favourite hair toy (just one, if you can). Why it's your favourite? Gotta say, none. Once in a while I'll put in a chopstick or two, but usually I just use loads of invisible hairpins, which aren't very toylike.
3. Do you have a hairstyle that you would love to wear but can't for some reason (too difficult to make, can't be made with your type of hair etc.)
I'd love to wear a french twist. My hair's way too long and thick, and it's always been so straight that I have to laugh when I read instructions say, pile the ends lightly on top Cheesy
4. Who's your long hair idol? (= a person whose long hair you admire and who inspires you)
Actually, a professor of mine when I first started studying linguistics was my hair idol. She always wore her waist-length hair loose, which I never did (always wearing it braided).
5. Do you try to copy your idol's hairdos?
Inspired by her I started wearing my own hair loose, which wasn't especially good for it. Over the years her hair has become shorter and in worse condition, probably as a result of growing older and not understanding proper hair care, while mine is finally growing longer and in good condition.
6. Do you have any great hair care tip?
CO wash is what I think made the biggest difference for me.
7. What in your opinion is definitely passée?
Hair that doesn't match your complexion, fried hair, and especially fried hair that doesn't match your complexion.
8. What's the best hair length? (in general, not necessarily on you)
I think waist-length is a nice length, especially for people who have not made the commitment necessary to properly fixate on their hair.
9. What's trendy next summer? Let your imagination run wild!
I'm seeing more and more girls going back to their natural hair color from bad highlights that didn't look remotely natural on them.

OH MY GOSH! I LOVE Claudia Blacks hair. She's definately my next choice. I almost put her down first, but then I went with Princess Isabelle because I saw Braveheart the night before and it was still very fresh in my mind.

*sigh* It's been awhile since I've seen Farscape. Looks like I'm gonna have to pull out my DVD collection again!  Wink

1. What's your favourite way of wearing your hair?
I have tons! I love wearing my hair down or half up. I don't like the way I look with it up, but I feel most comfotable with it up, so that's what it's like most of the time.
2. Your favourite hair toy (just one, if you can). Why it's your favourite? Hmm. My black pair of hairsticks. It goes with most of my clothes and holds up all of my favorite styles.
3. Do you have a hairstyle that you would love to wear but can't for some reason? A french twist. It just doesn't work on my hair!
4. Who's your long hair idol? Hmm, I don't think I have one...
5. Do you try to copy your idol's hairdos? I guess this question doesn't apply to me then Smiley
6. Do you have any great hair care tip? Everyone should at least *try* oil, shea butter, and essential oil in their concoctions to see how it works for their hair type!
7. What in your opinion is definitely passée? Thick blonde highlights on dark hair! Oh and straightening irons!
8. What's the best hair length? BSL+, IMHO
9. What's trendy next summer? Long hair! Grin

1. What's your favourite way of wearing your hair?
Loose, with the sides braided and clipped back.
2. Your favourite hair toy (just one, if you can). Why it's your favourite? Just one? Aaarggh! Hmm, my green jewelled clips my Mom bought me for Christmas are stunning!.
3. Do you have a hairstyle that you would love to wear but can't for some reason? My sister is a hairstylist so I can have just about any style I want, so I'm lucky in that department
4. Who's your long hair idol? Rebecca Gayheart and Kerri Russell (when she still had long hair) and I just love Halle Berry's new extensions
5. Do you try to copy your idol's hairdos? I'm always trying out new styles that I see in the movies, The Lord of the Rings particularly inspired me to new "lengths"
6. Do you have any great hair care tip? Don't rub hair try with a towel and condition, condition, condition!
7. What in your opinion is definitely passée? Multi-coloured streaks and ultra-short curls.
8. What's the best hair length? Mid-back
9. What's trendy next summer? Curls! (I'll be so in fashion) Cheesy .

1.  At the moment, the way it is.  Slightly s-shaped parting with Dutch braid: one side has loosened a bit to cover one ear.
2.  Flexicomb!  Put it around your neck, slide it up and push into hairline: it keeps it back and lets it hang loose.
3.  French braiding: I don't have the finger dexterity!
4.  I don't think I have an idol: but yes, Aeryn's from Farscape is rather wonderful!
5.  Just to have the shine of it..
6.  Believe it or not, some kids' shampoos are designed for 'long or curly' hair Grin
7.  Peroxide on its own or black hair dye on white-blonde hair.  (A person at school: white-blonde hair dyed it black.  The roots were going zebra style, so she decided to peroxide it Roll Eyes... BAD IDEA!  The end result was normal roots but Orange Ends Shocked
8.  Anything as long as it is healthy.
9.  Hair sunscreen: but affordable too

b]1. What's your favourite way of wearing your hair?[/b] Loose. I love how it feels against my back on arms. For more practical purposes, I like a simple English braid.
2. Your favourite hair toy (just one, if you can). Why it's your favourite? Hairsticks, of course! (need I say more?)
3. Do you have a hairstyle that you would love to wear but can't for some reason (too difficult to make, can't be made with your type of hair etc.) French twist (my hair's WAY too long) or a crown braid (way to complicated for my uncoordinated fingers)
4. Who's your long hair idol? Lara Croft (just saw Tomb Raider for the first time last night, so she's fresh in my mind) Proving that long hair isn't always impracticle, and that ladies can kick butt.  Wink
5. Do you try to copy your idol's hairdos? No, but I wish my braids were as sturdy as hers.
6. Do you have any great hair care tip? ACV!! (soak, not rinse) And baby powder is a great temporary solution for a greasy scalp; just powder some on and distribute it with a boar bristle brush. You smell like baby powder for most of the day, but at least your hair looks okay.  Roll Eyes
7. What in your opinion is definitely passée? The messy bun & thick highlights that aren't anything like your natural colour
8. What's the best hair length? (in general, not necessarily on you) I personally like waist-length the best on most people, but anything is ideal as long as it's healthy and well-kept
9. What's trendy next summer? Let your imagination run wild! BSL hair, dyed darker instead of blond, or at least kept closer to one's natural shade. I can also see afros coming back...
