HELP!!!!
Jun 22nd, 2005 at 4:09pm

I have bra strap length hair that is frizzy and wavey. But the only place it frizzes out is in the back at the top. I use Bioterra shampoo & conditioner which is a comperative product to Biolage that Sally makes. I have no idea how to get my hair friz free. I hope some of you could help me by giving me a few suggestions on how to fix this problem. ???

I would appreciate any suggestions anyone had!

Welcome!

Do you know if the frizzies are due to damage of the hair, or just the type of hair?

If the hair is damaged - showing split ends and dry; you should try to determine what is causing the damage and correct that.  For instance, if you always wear your hair in a high ponytail, the damage might be from the elastics that are being used.  Changing to a more hair-friendly hair tie, such as a cloth scrunchie, or a thicker, covered elastic that has no metal, could resolve the cause.  Excessive brushing and/or combing with a comb/brush could be breaking or stretching the hair causing damage.  Also, if you are combing or brushing your hair when it is wet, you could be stretching the hair and causing damage.

If the frizzies are just your "hair type", then you might consider using a bit of aloe vera gel to control them.  If you hair is dry, a little jojoba oil might be enough to tame them as well.

You might also try a vinegar/water rinse to make sure you don't have any product buildup that can cause dry hair and lead to frizzies.

Hope something here helps!

If your hair type tends to be frizzy, I can not recommend Jessicurl products enough (www.jessicurl.com). ; I have wavy hair and never in my life have I loved it until I tried Jessicurl, which was only this month!
Another thing for us wavies is scrunch product into hair when super wet (like just finished w/washing) then squeeze excess water out w/a microfiber towel.  The less you have your head upside down the less frizz you'll have.  I can't believe how that tip has decreased my frizz.  I thought I was just gonna be stuck with it!  No more  Grin!
Good Luck!!!!!  I can hardly wait until my hair is BSL- in a few more months!

Thank you SO much for the advice...I used to flat iron my hair all the time so I think that is the problem...I went to my hairdresser to see if there was anything she could recomend for the damage and she said to use Paul Mitchell Super-Charged Mousterizer. She said to wash my hair normally then towel dry it and then put that in it and wrap my hair back up in the towel and then do something that will create heat to my head to activate the mousterizer...
I haven't been washing my hair everyday and have been using a boars head brush, those things have greatly reduced my frizz. I also haven't  used a hair tie with metal in it in a long time because I remember how every time I took it out of a ponytail how it wuld take alot of my hair with it. I don't brush/comb my hair when it is wet anymore.
But I'm still wondering if I have damaged hair and I want to grow it long then will I have to cut most of it off to have my hair grow long? I am also wondering if this Mousterizer will work and if a hot oil treatment will help the frizzies?

I have damaged hair on the ends.  I used to color my hair and the ends still have that.  Depending on the extent of the damage you may or may not feel the need to trim.

Hot oil and/or moisturizing treatments CAN make a difference.  (HINT:  to heat the treatment, get a towel damp - not wet - and warm it by putting it in a microwave for a bit.  Be very careful taking it out to make sure it is not too hot - you don't want to scald or burn your head!).  Regular moisturizing of the ends, trimming the splits, and even dry oiling will help keep the ends soft and flexible.  This will also reduce the frizzies.

Oh, and another hint - towel drying should be done by gently patting the hair and running the towel down the length of the hair.  Do not rub the head/hair vigorously with the towel - this has the same effect as ratting or back combing the hair.  It makes knots!  Shocked

Give these a try and see what it does for your hair - you might be amazed!

Hmm...I think BB just gave ME a new idea, heat the oil and then apply it. Seems so simple, but I would have never thought to do that!

I wanted to say even though you are not using the hair ties with metal, they can still be damaging. I had been using that kind and got lots of breakage in the back of my head I didnt even know about! I only noticed it a little back because they have grown to almost look like a layer. Now I am using a cloth covered one and I have noticed my hair is a lot less frizzy. I am assuming my frizz was caused by putting too much tension on my strands.

When I wear my hair down I use some olive oil to keep it looking more slick. The oil is a bit heavy and I think that keeps my hair down a bit more. To make sure I do not use too much oil and make my hair look dirty I run my hands underneath my hair first and then the top layer.

Sorry that is so long! I feel for you with the frizz and I hope you find something that works for you! Smiley Good Luck!!
