Brother's Grimm movie
Aug 9th, 2005 at 6:16am

I just saw a commercial for The Brother's Grimm movie!  It looks really good.  It's directed by Terry Gilliam (Monty Python movies, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, I think Time Bandits, and a lot of others).

Anyway, how does it relate to long hair - I saw a tower that looked like RAPUNZEL's tower!  I wonder if she will be in it?  She doesn't appear on the cast list... But there are sketches from the set designs over here:

Watch for Monica Bellucci! She's going to have really long hair (granted, extensions) in the film.

I saw this movie today.  Loved it!  I don't know if people will like it if they are not familiar with the Brother's Grimm fairytales.  There are a lot of references to them, and that was half the fun of the movie was realizing what story things were from.  Every once in a while, there will be the infamous Monty-Python-Humor.  I recommend this film if you like sci-fi / fantasy films.  You have to remember it is part British comedy - I think some people went into the theater thinking it was all drama, and I was the only snickering at the jokes.  LOL  At the same time, it was very dark and gorey in parts, and wouldn't recommend it for really young viewers.

Thanks for the review, Khrome! It looks like an interesting movie, but an article in the paper made it sound so-so. It's nice to hear from someone who liked it.

It's not getting very good reviews here in San Antonio but I think that is because Terry Gilliam is British and brings the culture to it.  I personally can't wait to see it.  I love all things British--humor, clothing styles, and oddly enough food.  My husband jokes I must have been British in a previous life Roll Eyes

ever get the feeling they just write what the editor thinks people want to hear or are being cookie-cutter about their opinions b/c they don't want to go against the media gods?  I never read reviews

When they all say almost the same things as definitions of "bad" or "good" you sure do get that feeling.  Often the very stuff they think makes the good/bad is what tells me I won't feel the same way.

I admit I'm weird though - I absolutely hated the "Kill Bill" movies and must be the only person I know who doesn't think Tarantino is a "genius with dialogue".  Hey, what can ya do.  I'm seeing the Brothers Grimm  Wink...g

Oh good. I'm glad I'm not the only person who didn't really care for "Kill Bill" one and two. I thought certain parts were okay, but I didn't like those movies enough to watch them a second time.

I always thought Gilliam was the only Python that was American...regardless, he is a wonderful director.

Yes, that's true - he was American born.  He emigrated to England almost 40 years ago, and is now a citizen.  I would guess he has dual citizenship.

PS - if you like fairy tale-ish movies, especially comedies like Princess Bride, check out The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.  It's also directed by Gilliam.  Uma Thurman has a small role as Venus.  I loved the sets and costumes in this movie
