Too thin to put up?
Jan 27th, 2006 at 1:51am

OK girls (and guys?) time to fess up, anyone else here who doesn't often put their hair up because its too fine?

If I leave mine down at least it looks like I have a fair bit (21" long but about 2 1/4" around ponytail) but it makes a pathetic little bun and a very skinny little ponytail/plait/braid.

I do love my hairpieces when going out though as it looks like I have lots of hair.

My hair is fine and about medium thickness. so I don't really have your "problem".  I know of others, however that have very fine and thin hair.  I've noticed that they tend to do more french rolls/twists than buns.  Maybe that's a style you could try.

Guilty as charged.  Grin

My hair is almost the same as yours, carolyn. 20" long, and I bet my ponytail is even thinner (I've never measured).

Half the time I probably do just leave my hair down because I don't feel like putting it up, and I wonder if all that twisting & tension (even in a loose bun, there's tension for fine hair) is really more damaging than just leaving it down.  ???

That walnut-sized bun is pretty pathetic when I put it up, but half the time I put it up anyway to prevent myself from playing with it too much. It also makes it so I don't have to brush it.
When I leave my hair down, it gets tangled ridiculously easily, and I have to brush it often or else I end up with an impossible rat's nest.  Sad

I have never used hairpieces, but I'd love to try...as long as they matched my hair exactly & didn't look obvious.  Wink

My hair is at bottom of the BS when stretched- above BSL naturally (I'm a 2a-2b) the last time I measured my pony tail it was exactly 2" circumference( I do have bangs) which I keep cutting- ( I can't seem to get past a certain point with 'em) so maybe I'd be a bit thicker if they were in there.
Anyways- the French twist BB brought up is my STAPLE style when I wear my hair up because my measily buns are about the size of a quarter and my ponys and braids are pathetic- I do still wear them sometimes just to be defiant !
I usually wear a french twist- alas my phony "fakkare" cheap goody style clip Broke so I have to get another-
But sometimes I make a bun by putting my hair in a pony with a safe elastic, making a cinnamon bun with that and pin that, and then put a nice big scrunchie outside of that.
I do wear my hair down a lot for the reasons mentioned and also my dh perfers it that way, although I wear it up a lot to, and when I wear it down, I usually wear a half up or the side pinned back with small claw clips.
I have thought about hairpieces, those would be neat!
I ordered a tony pony once but I had to send it back cause I got the color wrong.

Don't think the company I bought my hairpieces from is around any more - bummer.  I bought them pretty close to same colour as my hair and the ponytail one you can put some of my own hair over it so it looks like its all mine.  When I want exact match I take piece to hairdresser and get mine dyed to match.

These pieces also have a great clip that stays in my fine, slippery hair.

Check this site out. Madeleine has thin, but absolutely gorgeous hair and on the pages she shows many ideas on how to put it up to beautiful styles.
