Wow!  You totally have the retro look!  Personally, I like the first set best.  Victory rolls would look awesome on you.  Where do you get your retro clothes?
Have you tried pin curls?

Thanks all!  I agree Sakina and that's how I "usually" roll my hair but I don't want to put the kind of tension on my hair it requires to get anything that looks like more than an unintentional bend.

Yes, I've tried pin curls once.  Took forever, like 2 hours. Not as difficult as I thought it would be.  Some make them larger and make fewer of them for more modern styles but I was trying to make the tiny vintage ones.

I don't have the aligator clips to quickly pin them into place so I struggle with- and ruined two packages of bobby pins by trying to place them in an X across each other with the U bend facing back and the two tips facing forward to keep the X's from getting tangled in each other.  Little hair's broke off too...and it was on LL I first read that metal isn't good for your hair. Smiley  So no more pin curls!

I'd much rather "rock" timelessly elegant buns, braid updos, victory rolls and chignons anyway.

Online when some of the more classic women's apparel sites have styles that can pass off as era correct, thrift shops where I look for the same and word of mouth which means someone occasionally has something they'll give me.  My MIL mainly.  I can't afford vintage and reproductions right now.  I see this as a life long project just like my hair.  I'm trying to balance keeping it elegant and individual at the same time.
