Braids?
Feb 14th, 2010 at 7:29pm

Hello again. Another few questions, sorry. I recently tried going all-natural with the puff on my head. Since I used the light relaxer (this was almost a year ago) my hair is still thick, but thinner on one side, but seems to be breaking off less because of a website teaching me techniques to take care of my natural waves/curls. Since I've been doing this, I was wondering if it would be safe to get box braids (I hate the small ones though) with my own hair. I wanted beads too, but I'm not sure if either twists, or braids, or what-have-you would work since I didn't really cut off all of the relaxed hair (which is actually fairing well since the techniques are being used). I'm not ready dreads yet, but is that also an option?

Thankee much for the assistance. :]

I'm no "expert" on box braids, but any braid done too tightly will break your hair.  I'm sure if there are any members here that offer suggestions on box braids they will chime in!

From everything that I read, if the braids are too tight, not only will you have breaking but you will also experience "traction alopecia". Which basically means that if the hair is pulled on for too long, the hair will fall out and not grow back in.  Sad

Thanks~

Mm, does that mean it would be bad to have it braided at all, or is it okay as long as it's not tight??
