Have you looked at www.dreamweaverbraiding.com? Her instructions are a little difficult to translate to your own head instead of someone else's, but she has instructions for both a flat and square four strand.

Actually, I did.  She admits that her "flat" four-strand braid spirals.  I used to have directions for one that didn't but I can't find them anywhere.

I looked at this site and was amazed!!!  Did you do the four strand braid on yourself???   I think I would have to practice on someone else quite a bit before attempting it on myself.  If you find your lost instructions, would you please post them???

Unfortunately I can't do any kind of braid on myself anymore except a side braid... it's just too long.  My hubby does all my braiding for me.

I sure will post those instructions if I ever find them!

My mom taught me that braid when I was very little, and I've forgotten how to do it. When she gets home, I'll ask her, then post it here. I have a general idea but I'm not sure if I'm right. I'll be sure to post it if I can!

By the way, I'm going home Saturday and won't have internet for a while, but I'm not abandoning you all again, I promise!

OK. The way I had to do it on here last night was wrong. I tried it again and it didn't work. I think this is the way to do it.

Divide your hair into four sections horizontally. I will call these, from your left to your right, 1,2,3 & 4 respectively.

1. Cross 1 over 2
2. Cross 4 under 3
3. Cross 4 over 1

Now, rename then 1-4 again, from left to right.

1. Cross 1 under 2
2. Cross 4 over 3
3. Cross 4 over 1

I think that's the way to do it. If I'm wrong, don't sue me!
