Concerts
Feb 8th, 2003 at 12:22am

I'm a musician and frequently have to do concerts, but it's often hard for me to decide what hairstyle to do. My hair holds updos well and they are quite elegant so I thought I could try one, but I'm at a loss for ideas.

My first recital is on Monday (Feb 10), and I am wearing a long skirt and a pretty top. This is in a small school and a lot of younger kids, and this concert is a little bit informal. I thought I might only take half of it up, and I can do this by putting it in a clip, making a bun ("the topknot"), or that French Twist I had written about earlier. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

My next one coming up is next month, on March 10. This is a lot more formal, it's a band and choir concert, whereas the one before is solos (I'm doing piano and violin in the first one, playing clarinet in the band in the second one and singing in the choir). On this concert everyone has to wear black from the waist down (pants for boys, skirts for girls) and white dress shirts. And guys wear a tie. I thought an updo might do well for this... I thought I might just do my french twist, does anyone else have any other suggestions? I'm not good at matching clothes with hairstyles!

A braided bun with hairsticks would do quite well for the more formal event.  A french braid is also nice.  If the braid down your back is too long, or you want to shorten it, try folding it back up under the braid and tieing it up with a pretty ribbon or barrette.

The less formal event you could pull your hair back from the ears up (half up), then braid that hair.  A ribbon could be braided in with the hair, ending with a bow.

Wow those are great ideas! For a braided bun I usually do a french braid anyway, I find it holds better for me. Wow thanks a lot Robin  Grin!

Leia,
What hairstyle did you decide to wear for your concert?

I was going to braid the top half like you suggested, but I found that my hair was straight that day with a little curl at the bottom (my hair is different every day  Grin) which I wanted to show of. So I just pulled the top into a barette and everyone said that it looked like I had curled it at the bottom! Haha ... anyway my next one is on March 10 and I'm thinking of doing the french braided bun, but then again you never know how my hair will decide to behave on that day!

Sounds very pretty!  I frequently think I will put my hair in one style for the day, but change my mind depending on how the hair is acting when I get up.  After all, changing our minds is a women's perogative.  Wink
