Warm Welcome (sumanaju)
Apr 25th, 2004 at 4:25am

Thank you everyone for your lovely welcome here. I am still trying to find the time to get here and read more about this whole site.  I am so glad I've read up on the do's and don'ts with having long hair. I was considering a highliting of the silver part and maybe a little extra streaking done to lighten it even more. They say as you get older to go lighter otherwise darkening your hair makes you look older.  Well I've decided to let it be the way it is. I don't want to damage my hair in any way. I actually went out and bought what I think is good shampoo and conditioner by Pantene especially for curly hair. I think it does have the "cone" word in it, but on investigation they all seem to have that. My hair when short is fairly straight with a bit of a kink in it. I'm told it is very strong hair and fights to have it's own way. lolol - sounds just like me!!  Cheesy  Anyway, when I decided to let it grow a couple of years ago, Bingo, I didn't even know it would curl on me.  I wonder why that is, does anyone know?  Just curious. I was tired of my hairdresser suggesting that I go short again because of my age, so I had it cut off, now to heck with them all, I'm growing it again. Never? to be cut off again.  I also have never washed my hair every day. It seems to just stay clean for about 4 days. Sometimes I have left it for a week before washing. It would tend to be a little on the dry side but lovely and soft and not fly-away. When I examine a strand, it is made up of the dark brown and the silver.  Is this normally what one would expect with healthy hair.  My goodness I have asked so many questions. Sorry about that.  BTW I am from the land down-under, Australia and live in the southern state of Victoria in the capital of the state which is Melbourne. I'm also an ole hippie at heart. Thanks for any help you can provide. c.ya mates.

Welcome and Congratulations for realizing you prefer long hair!

As I aged, my hair also developed curls that I never had when I was younger.  Things change as we age and our hair is just one of many things we may notice that change with time.

Pantene is known to have a lot of -cones in it, but some hair likes them.  I'd suggest clarifying periodically to make sure any build up is removed before it causes any damage to your hair.  (I used Pantene for years without noticable damage, but I clarified once a week).

I hope we can answer your questions and help you with your long hair journey.

Clarifying????

Thanks for the info Bikerbraid. What is "clarifying" and can I use a Pantene product for this?  I would also like to mention that I have begun to use Vitapointe Conditioner that stays in. My mother always used this to keep her ever so curly hair in place. I think I used too much tho hahaha. Will know next time. I think just on the ends would have been enough. I don't think I have split ends, but now have to find a good hairdresser who knows what he/she is doing to trim the ends. I am finding so much help here. Just love the jewellry site. Thank you so much.

Clarifying removes product buildup.  There are shampoos out there that are supposed to be good for clarifying and I think I recently saw that Pantene even had one.

I use a vinegar rinse to clarify.  I mix a bit of vinegar (I don't measure, but it is about a quarter cup) with about 2 liters of water. I pour this through my hair after shampooing and before conditioning.  My hair is to my hips, so shorter hair could use less.

When conditioning the hair, typically you only need to condition the length of the hair, not the whole head.  I concentrate on the ends of my hair and work my way up.

Good luck finding a hairdresser to trim your ends.  It is always difficult to find the "right" person.

Thank you for the info Bikerbraid. Your hair must be so lovely being that long. Once again quoting my mother, who said that if you have curly hair or some curl in it, the weight of the hair will actually pull the curl out.  I hope not. Have a nice day now.
