New Guy on Board

Smiley

Hello everyone. I thought it might be a good idea to post a little about me.

I'm 59 and recently retired from a 36 year career as an Engineering and R&D Manager. I designed machines and have seven patents to my name. My wife and I live in SW Louisiana now with two kids in collage. Tongue

I'm a guy that loves long hair. It's been my obsession since I can remember. I wore mine kinda sorta long in the 70's and again in the 90's. It is about mid-back length now and kind of fine. It's medium brown because I color it to cover my grey. I enjoy wearing various styles and am not afraid to experiment. Wearing styles that some may think are a little feminine do not threaten my masculinity. I kind of like pushing boundries a little but consider respect for others' opinions important.

I try hard to take care of my hair by following basic principles: gentleness and conditioning. I wash my hair about twice a week and use jojoba oil. I even sometimes use a little " 'cones" Undecided

I get about 1/2" trimmed every three months or so depending on the condition of the ends. I'm not sure how long I want to let it get. The longer it gets the more Ilike it so far. I enjoy the felling of it on my shoulders and back. Never experienced that before. Smiley

Favorite Styles:

Loose/low or high pony tail/half pony tail/french braid

Favorite Things:

My family/cats/trains/my Dad's old El Camino/ and of course LONG HAIR

Least Favorite Things:

Heavy handed stylists/people who will not take care of their hair/people that impose their opinions on others/taxes/dentists/cleaning gutters

I joined this board to try to learn about long hair and maybe help others with similar intrests.

Thanks for the opportunity to ramble on ---  Smiley

(ps: I am a member of another board aka terri439. name choice explanitation for another time.)

Hi DSW!  I immediately recognized your avatar pic from LHC.  Welcome over here as well.  We may be a bit slower paced than LHC, but we are a cozy group that is here to help each other.

The name Terri439 is an artifact from an old e-mail account. I have now found a way to work around it. Cheesy

Sorry for any confusion.

Have you ever worn it in a herringbone braid? I think that looks really nice on men.

There is a similarity to a french braid.  There's a picture ofmen's braids.  There are instructions in the Hair Braiding Basics section of this site.  (Fishtail and herringbone are the same thing).

Thanks bikerbraid! I'll check it out.

We just received two instructional tapes for french braiding etc. We'll keep you posted on how things progress.

Love to all
