conditioner?
May 6th, 2004 at 12:14am

I'm looking for a good conditioner that I can use everyday on my really fine hair. I've been having problems finding one that actually conditions but doesn't end up leaving a lot of residue on my hair.
Someone recommended Infusium leavein and wondered if anyone has tried it and what you think about it.
The other thing I'm wondering is, what is the correct amount to oil the hair? I know I like jojoba oil of the ones I've tried, and people say they put a bit on the ends at night, but then I heard that this too can make the hair dry.
Ugh. I am so confused.

Thanks!

I think conditioners are a hit and miss situation.  Different types of hair seem to like different conditioner.  My hair is fine and dry.  Conditioners with -cones make the ends crunchy.  If I use products with protein too much, the ends also get crunchy.  A good vinegar rinse resolves both of these conditions for me.  I use 3 different conditioners depending on how my hair is doing.  I use Australian Organics Conditioner for dry, colored or chemically treated hair as my most used conditioner.  I use Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner for Dry, Colored or Chemically treated hair about every 4th washing.  If I've been particularly tough on my hair (washing more than twice a week) I use Aussie 3 Minute Miracle.

I found the Infusium products to have too many -cones for my hair, so I avoid them.

I use a dab of the lightest conditioner as a leave in on my hair.

I know this isn't a direct answer for you, but maybe it will give you some ideas.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Thanks for the advice! It's good to know that others have multiple products that they rotate too. My bf thinks I'm nuts cause I have a million different bottles in the shower!

I did try clarifying shampoo rather than a vinegar rinse and my hair seems to like that better, and it got the stuff off. I think I've been overconditioning it.

Someone told me that putting oil (I only use a drop or so) on the hair can actually make it dryer. Is it ok to put a drop or so of jojoba oil on the ends at night? Or will doing this too often make it worse? I know silicone can have that effect but is oil safe to use everyday?

Here I can give you my usual recommendation Wink Wink
Matrix Biolage Conditioning balm-great for detangling my fine hair without weighing it down-I've never had any build up problems with this one!
For the rest I agree with bikerbraid.
Regarding oils I personally can't recommend anything-I´ve never had any luck with *any*type of oil,it always seemed to dry out my hair, instead of conditioning it.

Thanks!
I have tried the matrix conditioning balm and if I remeber correctly I liked it. Do you conidtion everyday? Basically, I am trying to figure out what to do about my dry hair. Since the weather turned hot here it is totally dried out, so I made the mistake of overconditioning it. My scalp never gets oily, even a few days after I wash it so I wonder how I could possible be getting enough oil to my ends. . I really wish I coudl find somethign to help it but everythign that is supposed to make it less dry seems to be making it more dry.

I wash my hair every 2-3 days and use a conditioner always.
For me the big plus of the Biolage cond.is,that it leaves my hair smooth&shiny, with no static and no weighing down.
But I have an oily scalp,so it's difficult to give any advice on your dry scalp.
Maybe you could try a leave-in conditioner? There are several (Beauty without cruelty leave-in or the Phyto 7 / Phyto 9 )which I sometimes use and which are not too ''heavy'' for my fine hair. Smiley

I use a drop of jojoba oil on the ends of my hair most nights.  If I know I am wearing my hair up the next day and will be washing that night, I will use a bit more oil.  I will then clarify with a vinegar rinse.

I also use a tiny drop of oil to tame my hair if I am wearing it down and have lots of waves or curls.  The oil seems to help with static and keep my hair from flying all over the place.
