Gollan Introduction
Jun 20th, 2004 at 5:20am

Hello everybody, I am Gollan. I have been growing my hair for two years this month. During that time I had only one trim (about three months into my hair growing). The longest part of my hair is 24 inches (61cm) long (using the 'measure-from-the-hairline' method). After two years of growing wild my hair has assumed a natural 'v' so only the pointy part crosses the '24' on my tape measure. The ends don't look too bad but they are hardly a 'fairytale'. The color of my hair is... well look at the natural sunlight pictures on my website and you tell me. It is basically dark brown with a lot of red and a few sandy brown hairs. My hair is straight but as it got longer I was surprised to see quite a bit of wave. On days that I wash my hair I often put in a bit of Jojoba oil and put it in a damp bun. The next day I get waves galore and the last time I even had a couple of 'ringlets'. If I don't bun my hair I just let it air dry while I have a towel over my shoulders. I try to avoid hair products because they leave flakes in my hair and it means I have to wash it sooner. I use Aussie products for washing and conditioning and a regular ACV rinse to keep my scalp in good condition. In the winter I was using Infusium 23 for a light leave-in and Paul Mitchell 'The Conditioner' for heavier conditioning. Lately I've been trying to stick to Jojoba oil. For business meetings where my hair has to look good I slick my hair back into a tight bun and use Alberto Smooth and Glisten Pomade to keep the front under control. I also use Aussie hairspray around the back. I don't like putting all this stuff in my hair but it works. All of this is important because when I am in front of people presenting ideas and information I want them listening to what I'm saying without being distracted by my bun falling apart! I don't mind my 'corporate look' but I prefer having my hair down and loose and since I'm the boss, I get my way.

My only real hair accessory is a sterling silver ponytail cuff from copperbracelets.com. It is a beautiful piece. It took a while for my ponytail to get thick enough to do it justice but now I think it looks great. I have some Bunjii hair ties (www.bunjii.com). I have mixed feelings about them. They look great but two of the three I got have very thick cords that cause my hair to get pulled into the hub when I use them. If I were to order again I would specify thin cords that easily slide through the hub rather than thick cords that are tight in the hub. Finally, I've been looking at the Chapstix here on LongLocks Boutique. I'm not a big trendsetter but I think I can wear these provided I can learn to style my hair neatly with them.

My progress pictures are on my website that should launch when you click on the little 'house' icon under this message (if it doesn't the URL is 'gollan.pwaresearch.com').

Welcome, Gollan!  Glad to see you over here.

Sounds like you've developed a very hair-friendly routine.  Good for you!  When your hair looks good, you look good.

Having to look the professional part when you have long hair can be a frustration.  A simple hair stick worn with confidence could be just the trick.  The Bunjii's are nice too.  I know Brad is working with thinner cords and also shorter cords (which work great on the ends of braids or very thin ponytails).  A simple braid can also keep the hair looking professional.

Great pics on your site, by the way.

Let us know how your hair journey continues!

Wow, you've really come a long way, and congratulations are due for keeping your hair in *excellent* condition throughout the process.  Keep up the good work, I wanna see it waist length in a couple years, LOL!  :D
