New here!
Nov 18th, 2004 at 8:17pm

Hello everyone!  I'm 28 and a former nun (no joke!!!) who went from a shaved head (under the veil) in 1996 to waist length hair at present.  I have never cut it since I left the convent.  I have dark hair with goldish red highlights, and it is fine and thin.  It has some natural wave in it, and I get tons of waves when I braid it every night.  However, with the humidity at 100% presently, they don't last long!!!  I look forward to posting here.

Hello Annelise! Lovely name!

Welcome and well done on the growing out your hair! It sounds very beautiful. And such an interesting background! How long did you keep your head shaved? Was it really hard growing it out at first?

Very much looking forward to your future posts! See you 'round the boards...

Once I received the habit and veil, I would say I had a shaved head for over a year. I was actually a "novice" nun and had not made vows yet, so no scandal here!!!

It was a slow, painstaking process to grow it out, and for a little while after I left the convent I wore a wig.  When it got to the length of a crew cut I decided to go wigless!  I didn't care what others thought, I just wanted to be authentic.  And I was grateful I HAD hair!!!

FINALLY it started to get ear length, chin length, shoulder length, etc, etc.  It seemed to take forever but I guess I didn't do so bad starting from shaved!

I never CUT it but I tried trimming it a few times--NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!  It took FOREVER to grow and now I am determined to let it get hip length before I CONSIDER a trim!!!

Welcome!  My hair was to my knees back in 1998, and a hormonal surge (postpartum  Roll Eyes ) made me think I needed to trim my hair to my back???  It is now waist-length again and I have kept it trimmed about waist length!  Now I want it to grow, grow, grow again!

You did so well to grow yours out like that!   Smiley
